Well here is another check-in about a month later. Adding in Tusen because well he's been on fire and he signed for 400K so not a small amount.

Manuel Boliver (C) - .338/.443/.513
Randy Santana (OF) - .238/.398/.425
Oscar Tineo (SS) - .268/.370/.354
Eduardo Tusen (SS) - .327/.368/.579

WM -> Erie
Bryce Rainer (21) .289/.398/.495 (Would honestly be okay with him staying in WM to work on K's but would also like to see them push him)

Re: Strikeouts... he was trending in the right direction.
36Ks in 71 ABs in April (50.7%)
34Ks in 83 ABs in May (40.9%)
24Ks in 71 ABs in June (33.8%)

But now is July numbers are creeping up:
15Ks in 35ABs (42.8%)

Only 9 games, and the good news is that this mostly seems to be a little slump at the end of the June/beginning of July. The last two games of June, then the first three in July were 2K, 3K, 2K, 3K, and 3K. In the 6 games since that blip he's only struck out more than once in a game one time.

Even if he improves, his K rate will likely be closer to 30% in the majors.  His power and defense will be critical.  For this reason, I would not rate him above Max Clark.

OK I am absolutely going to caveat this with the fact I have been holding out hope that he could pull it all together and I recognize that he is 25 and old for the level but Peyton Graham is having a season. He has a 6/7 game last night raising his BA to .294 after a slow start in April and May, he hit .324/.458/.500 in June. He also has 44 SB already. There is a new rule in the minors in which the pitcher only gets one throw over and it seems he is taking advantage. He has a BB rate of 15% and a K rate of less than 20. He has increased his LD and FB %'s this season as well while becoming less of a pull hitter. Someone to keep an eye on if they push him to Toledo with Peck.

OK... I'll bite.

I'm getting on the Peyton Graham bandwagon, even before the John Peck bandwagon... even though Peck is a year younger, in AAA, and probably the better fielder.

Call Graham a late-bloomer. But in the past two years (high-A and AA) he's hitting .290 with a .392 OBP and .816 OPS... but what's really striking to me is the 68 SB's and caught stealing only FIVE times. 68 and 5. not a bad ratio.

I'm interested. Not completely sold just yet... but very, very interested.

I would imagine both Peck and Graham get invited to spring training in 2027. And then we'll just see what happens from there...

Rainer is not ready for 2027 Spring Training. I believe... (maybe he proves me wrong).

McKinstry should be a backup only so I'm not counting him.

Vying for starting or platoon positions with the 2027 Tigers at 2B/ SS/ 3B:

Lee. Maybe Max Anderson?

At SS: Graham? Peck?

Colt Keith at 3B?

I think they can fit McGonigle in at any position, whatever's best for the Tigers as a whole. IE: What is our best starting IF (not counting 1B) in 2027?

Is it Lee/ McGonigle/ Keith?

Lee/ Peck/ McGonigle?

McGonigle/ Peck/ Keith?

McGonigle/ Graham/ Keith?

McGonigle/ Peck/ Graham?

Does Max Anderson factor into the equation anywhere? At all? Does Jace Jung arise from the ashes like a phoenix to participate in the camp position battles? Does someone (Trei Cruz?) finally push McKinstry out of his backup (and all TOO often starter's spot...) Infield/ sometimes OF job?

I think 2027 Spring Training battles for certain spots are going to be... interesting!!!

IMO.

You’re also forgetting Javy

I'm not counting Baez as a starter.

I'm counting him as a RH'ed McKinstry.

I think they'll utility him in 2027, and that includes some RH'ed at-bats in CF, just to give Clark a few days off.

I wouldn’t either, but if healthy I think they’d be fine with Baez and McGonigle sharing short next year like they started this season.

But McGonigle will be playing every day, or nearly every day. He's a starter, no matter how many games of that are at 2B, or SS, or 3B.

Baez gets squeezed in somewhere, and not on any everyday basis. I wouldn't call that a share if McGonigle is starting 150+ games on the IF.

This is really down to Lee, Keith, Peck, Graham, Anderson, Zach, Baez (or do we obtain some other option?) and any other competition for the remaining IF play.

McGonigle is the starter, somewhere, 150+ games. Probably at SS. Baez is not going to change that.

The only thing that changes is if Peck or Graham are so superior to Lee that the best configuration is McGonigle at 2B and one of the other guys at SS. Not Baez.

IMO.

Unless he collapses, I don’t see much chance Peck or Graham takes Lee’s spot next year.  They may earn their own spot at the expense of someone else (McKinstry/Veirling) but Lee getting the initial adjustment over and playing good defense makes 2nd his place to lose in 2027 IMO.

I think given current roster construction, your primary SS next season is McGonigle, with Baez backing up. 3B will be predominantly Keith, with Lee or Anderson platoon. 2B will be Lee or Anderson, with McKinstry in the mix all over.

The wild card is what they do with Tork. If they decide to move on from him, they may move Keith back to 1B and give Jung a shot at 3B in a platoon.

Rainer should factor in late ‘27 or spring ‘28.
