A 2027 rotation of Skubal, Jobe, Melton, Olsen and anyone else could be very good.

If the new cba negotiations go well and they have a 2027 season.

I'd prefer they sign Skubal as well. I understand the risk. It was frustrating to see Max, JV, Porcello go on and win WS elsewhere

Very True.

Porcello was just a weird outlier though. He never duplicated that season before or after, but I remain convinced that Ilitch and the Tiger org bungled the handling of  Scherzer even before his contract was up. Just a bit more plantation mentality  than Max would stand for.

JV was sentimental. He was open to staying here as long as the money was fine. Max was about the money. That’s not a criticism.  It’s business. He was traded here so there isn’t an attachment.  That weird press release didn’t sit right with me. That was their way of covering their butt.

Tarik will not sign before FA. I believe that as much as I believe anything sports related.

Only quoting you because this is the most recent, but what is it with the folks on this board that keep spelling it “Olsen”?

This.

It's annoying.

His name is Reese OLSON.

I see quite a few "Olsen's"

WTF?

Do you get more for Skubal this winter or at the trade deadline?  We all know the answer to this. Skubal is doing what he has to do and the Tigers need to do the same.  Trade him this winter for a #2 starter, 3B, and top 10 prospect.  The Tigers have multiple holes.  Absolutely no way Tigers pay $40 million a year or that Skubal accepts $1 less than $40 million.

Lighten up, Echos.

Yeah I'm chill.

But still annoyed.

Seems disrespectful to me.

I got it when it was a joke with Rayburns...

But now we do that with ANYONE's name?

Why?

I totally get your perspective, but I disagree for the following reason.  Other than Colt Keith & Javier Baez we have no committed contracts beyond 2026.  The only current Tigers I would consider extending at this point are Riley & Dillon. You let Mize & Tork & Carpenter play out their arbitration years.  Meadows you bring back mainly for defense / speed and see if he can become consistent with the bat.  You go out and find 2 RH bats this offseason if possible.  you make another run in 2026 for the post season / WS. Let Skubal run at a 3rd straight Cy Young.  Pay Skubal, understanding the injury pitalls and non peak years at the end.  2027... Skubal, Keith, Greene, Dingler, Jobe, Olson, Melton, McGonigle, Clark, RH 3B, RH RF, Carpenter DH, maybe Meadows.  I say build off this in 2027

Because people actually don't know if it's 'Olsen' or 'Olson' (both common) and aren't going to look him up just to mention him in a message board post when everyone will know who is indicated (i.e. - object of  communication will be accomplished anyway)

I think a fanbase that for years had to put up with Nick "Lindstrom" is patient enough to get over Olson vs Olsen.

Nobody died.

On the contrary, I think the fanbase only had to put up with that coming from outsiders. Folks engaged enough to do the equivalent of posting on a message board wouldn’t make the mistake of misspelling an important player’s name. But for some reason “Olsen” perseveres.

That said, I would not get bent out of shape for forgetting if it’s Reese or Reece, or Zach or Zack, or Kriedler or Kreidler.

I’m confident my position on this topic is perfectly balanced.

It’s just like the speed you drive on the highway, though. Faster drivers are maniacs, and slower drivers are buffoons.

Whatever...

I'm not going to beat a dead horse...

LOL - just parenthetically you do have a name that is often misspelled and/or mis-pronounced? I do, it's so common for people to get it wrong (like 99%) I'm long past being bothered by it. I happily respond to whatever comes close. :classic_laugh:

Yes, I think spelling "Olsen" instead of "Olson" is less egregious than something like calling Nate Robertson "Robinson" which are two different sounding names.  Even Raburn/Rayburn is fairly easy to remember simply because Raburn is unusual. Olson and Olsen are difficut because they sound the same and are both common.

Edit: Probably more humorous prior to the edit, but I'm trying to make a semi-serious point.

So what's funny about Olsen/Olson is that it is the same name - it just two different arbitrary transliterations for the same pre-literate Scandinavian culture clan name. Two monks in two different places, one decided to register an 'Olsen' and the other an 'Olson' in a baptismal record some place, and the die was cast for centuries of confusion.

yes, actually, I do too.

I just politely correct the person.

My last name is Barker.

I hear Baker or Parker FAR, FAR more than I ever actually hear Barker.

No stress, no worries... I just politely correct...
