Ah insomnia...

Multi year pitchers are not a sure bet past year one. I am okay waiting to reinforce to avoid having bad rotation contracts bogging things down.

So you don't want me to call Zimmerman ?

Dalton Rushing, Emmit Sheehan, Tyler Glasnow are three of the pieces. I guess there's 5 total from the rumors. Man I hope this is true. Where does Rushing play though? I doubt he'd supplant Dingler? This will be a crazy morning for sure.

One poster made a great point. David Pingalore is going waaaaaaaay out on the limb with his credibility to break this. I guess he's broken a few things before, but mainly NBA. If this is true, I'd expect DePaula or Hope in the deal. Would LOVE to see Sasaki!!!! If this guys full of crap, I'm gonna send him a poo poo message on Twitter.

Probably true. But try. The past month Skubal said that his camp never said 400 and he seemed to say he would like to remain in Detroit. He might take 8/350. I doubt he is like Soto who turned down the Yankees at 15/750 for the Mets 15/765.

Try? Like the Pirates “tried” to sign Schwarber for 4/120 knowing he would never take it? That kind of try? 😉

I don’t see any way he takes 8/350 as a first offer from anyone, not even the Dodgers. Everyone believes at this time he can do better. Maybe he does land on 8/350 with someone, but I think that would happen only after a soft season and/or an emergent injury concern.

Glasnow is 32 and often injured. In the past 7 seasons the most games he has pitched is 22. I'd be disappointed if he's the return pitcher, even if there are a couple decent postition player prospects in the package.

Didn’t we hear about this same offer, or something really similar, last week? Was that also this Pinafore guy?

Forgive me for coming into the conversation late here, but is the general coconscious these days that the Tigers aren't extending Skubal? That's certainly the feeling I get... that they're just not going to pony up the cash to give him a competitive offer.

The feeling is that Skubal is going to free agency after this season no matter what, so any offer the Tigers make would be just setting the floor for Skubal next winter.

So there's three reasonable actions the Tigers can take regarding Skubal:

  1. Try to resign him
  2. Trade him
  3. Build a serious WS contender for his last year here

Given that #1 not only seems unlikely but also seems like their not even trying... we'll left with #2 and #3. Given that Ilitch does NOT seem willing to open the purse strings much, if at all, #3 seems highly unlikely. So... we're hoping for #2 then? But do we even think Harris will be able to get a good return for him?

I can practically guarantee that the return on any trade Harris would make for Skubal this winter would be hammered by just about everyone in this forum.

I don't agree with this notion to "go all in" this year because of this supposed window. If you sacrifice 2027-on, you are dooming yourself to be hurt even more if he walks. The team should be a in a good spot to return to the postseason this year, and have the best position player prospect they have had in my lifetime knocking on the door.

I agree with you on balance, although I do think it would behoove us to loc up in the bullpen and maybe even one of the positions to take advantage of Skubal’s peak while he still has it.

Flip side, I believe we’re missing out on the top-most bullpen help that are going other places mainly because we can’t effectively compete for them with the Dodgers and the eastern teams, at least not at this point. At least we got Finnegan to come back, for what that’s worth.

Realistically... how many more years of CY caliber performance does he have left?   He's already won 2 in a row.  Do you think he's a Max/JV type or a Corey Kluber/David Price type?

I say ride him out next year and make a fair offer and if he goes, he goes.  God Bless and thank you.

This org, if they are as good as they say, should be able to produce what Tarik Skubal would be by the time he's 32 ro 33.  Do you really think at that age he's going to be as good as he is now?

At the risk of drawing more fire on this point, a key reason I would like to re-sign him is that it would send a signal to the market that we are committing to winning, although that might help us a lot more this offseason than next.

I dunno. If this rumor is true, I'm happy where it's starting. Glasnow if he can stay healthy is great. I'd move him to the pen myself, but meh....I'll still take his 15 starts 😂. Sheehan's a stud it looks like and Dalton Rushing was one of the top prospects last year. I just dunno where Rushing would go. Also, if it's Hope or De Paula, than that alone is a great haul. Regardless who the 5th player is.

I'm just surprised that it hasn't been picked up more. Sports Illustrated just posted it 30 mins ago, but surprised more haven't reposted the trade even as pending speculation.

But again, if it is what Bowden predicted (which subsequent tweets are confirming Glasnow, Sheehan and Dalton plus two others), then I gotta give Bowden props. But I'd be happy with that return. Just puzzled about Rushing. Maybe Tork may be on his way out for pitching to whoever misses on Alonso and Schwarber?

Hoping for #2? Not this fan, I want the Tigers to sign him and continue his success here. As for faith in Harris trading him? I won't go there because there are posters here who will defend every Harris action, or lack of actions. There's another option, however unlikely...trading him at the trade deadline. I'm totally against that for 2 reasons...it would possibly send the wrong message to the team and fans. And the return would be much less than what it would be in the off-season. My guess is he'll be pitching for Detroit in 2026, Harris won't trade him. But....we'll see.

I should probably point out that I would prefer the Tigers to sign him long term as well... I just see that as unlikely. Assuming no signing, then trade him. But I fear that's not going to happen either. This reminds me a lot of the Suh situation with the Lions way back in the day. The Lions basically did nothing... didn't trade him, weren't able to resign him... he just walked away and the front office looked like a turd because they appeared to have no plan and did nothing.

All-in suggests that they would be trading all their prospects and going for it just for one year.  I would not want that.  My hope is that they sign a solid MLB player or two to give them a better chance this year and hopefully they can help next year too when Skubal is gone.  If the concern is players getting blocked, then they could certainly sign a pitcher without worrying about that.

All-in probably isn't the right term. As others have already said I think it's possible to make good decisions that benefit you in 2026 and beyond. Specially, sign some solid, even high level FA. I absolutely would not shop some of the young guys in a all out bid to make a huge push in 2026. I would look at adding high priced FA to maximize our 2026 potential while still giving up good options beyond.

That's why I'm holding my breath..... I've been hitting refresh constantly for the last 5 hours lol.

If true though, I think they plan on Rushing playing at 1B an moving Tork. I guess they could flip Dalton Rushing for something else, but I'd be surprised. This could be a fantastic deal if it goes through.........

FWIW, here's the thread on reddit that @AlaskanTigersFan was screen shotting. Most of the fans there were also not believing it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Dodgers/comments/1pirr0z/the_skubal_deal_is_essentially_in_place_whats/

One interesting point raised there by one fan: Could the Dodgers be taking Baez as part of the deal? That would be one way to get his money off the books.

Edit to add: Another commentor on Reddit indicated that Pingalore primarily covers NBA and NFL. If true that makes it even less likely that he's the only one to get the scoop on a blockbuster MLB move.

if Harris takes less in a Skubal trade just to get rid of the last 2 years of Baez, I would demand he be fired immediately

They were also saying it takes balls for him to put his street cred on the line reporting this so early. A lot were wondering if he would post something without actually having an "in" on it because he could lose a lot of credibility. So that was the counter argument. This could be a fun day.

The rumor hasn't been picked up more probably because the Pinafore guy behind it is a nobody and Sports Illustrated is an AI slop farm that bears no resemblance to its former self.

I don't discount the value in that. But if there's a bidding war for him and he's intent on getting the absolute most then I don't see how the Tiges can compete with the deep pockets of other orgs and I don't want them to do that.  I won't hold it against them or call them cheap.  I don't need my team to have the most expensive Non Ohtani player.

I didn't know street cred was a thing for internet people.

This reminds me of the guy who "broke" the Rick Carlisle story and has been riding high on that ever since, and been wrong ever since.
