This is the last I've seen: “I haven’t got an update, but he’s not prepared to play at all for a little bit. I’d be misleading you and everybody else,” coach Todd McLellan said. “If I said it’s two weeks or three weeks, I don’t know. But he’s not ready to play yet.” They have been very ambiguous about it so far honestly. Wings officially sent Holl to Grand Rapids, looks like JVR is on "leave" right now (just had twins with one or both in NICU) so the three rookies made the team! 1 1 Quote
buddha Posted October 6 Posted October 6 nobody picked up gustaffson's corpse, so it looks like he'll stick around in detroit. at least until danielson, jvr, or maybe even buium get healthy. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I'm guessing Mazur will play games in Detroit this season. It really is a shame he got hurt right away when he got called up last season. Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted October 7 Posted October 7 So is this the final roster? If so, good. I'd rather see them struggle with the future learning than seeing recycled wallpaper. And they will struggle, but that's part of the learning. Maybe there is just more belief that Todd can develop these guys than the previous coach. By the way, how long is Danielson out? Last I saw Danielson took a nasty cross check across the back. It is alarming that they haven’t announced a timetable yet. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted October 7 Posted October 7 Ya that's what caused it for sure. They didn't seem to think it was a huge deal at first so I'm wondering if it got progressively worse or something, very strange to not have a real timeline on it. Quote

I suppose if he got whacked in the spine there could be some nerve irritation and that's harder to get read on than muscle or joint issues. Parker's Meadows arm problem being a good example - they had no idea when it was going to clear up and there wasn't a lot they could do for it in the meanwhile. Quote

Jason_R Posted October 7 Posted October 7 I think the Wings will make it to the playoffs this year. McClellan seems like a good coach to play for. Don't be afraid of making a mistake (like Lalonde and Blashill preached), just step on the gas and have fun. They'll lose a few games 6-5, but I don't think they'll have any embarrassing collapses where they just lose their nerve. PS: Anyone see a resemblance between MBN and Shanny? Quote

You could ask whether Shanahan would have enough speed to keep up in today's league. Edited October 8 by gehringer_2 Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) I think the Wings will yet again miss the playoffs yet again and that isn't necessarily the worst thing in the world. They are doing what I wanted them to do and that is give the young guys playing time to see what we have. Doing this over giving the washed up veterans, where we already know what we have, unnecessary playing time. So I cannot criticize Yzerman and this coaching staff for that. I was happy as hell to see the likes of Finne and MBN make the roster. So if they miss the playoffs, but the young kids are taking significant steps forward and they get better throughout the season, I'm ok with that. I don't think that any of us could have suffered through another year of bad hockey and missing the playoffs due to the likes of Holl and Gustafsson stinking it up on the roster.
