Here We Go Again - Song by Demi Lovato ‧ 2009

So how did you get here
Under my skin?
I swore that I'd never let you back in
Should have known better
Than trying to let you go
'Cause here we go, go, go again
Hard as I try I know I can't quit
Something about you
Is so addictive
We're falling together
You'd think that by now I'd know
'Cause here we go, go, go again

Wow, I just checked and the air quality for Detroit is pretty bad thanks to the Canadian wildfires. In Idaho, we have had tremendously bad air quality the last dozen years hitting up to 500 last year around this time but <knock on wood>we’ve dodged the bullet so far this year.

Paddack and Morton were acquired as hedges in case Mize can't turn it around. Jack has stabilized and Skubal is great.

Guessing your will see Rafa Montero and Melton in leverage this week to see how it goes.

It's not as bad as it was a few years ago, when you could smell and see it. You look up at the trees and it looked everybody was having a bonfire in their backyard.  I don't smell it this year but it makes the blue sky disappear so it looks overcast.  And in the evening the moon is orange and it does make nice sunsets but not for a good reason obviously.

We get so many overcast days here from January to April so it is aggravating that we miss out on these beautiful blue sky days like this.

There’s sometimes in Idaho where it’s 150 and it doesn’t bother me, and other times where there’s a haze hanging over everything, white picket fences look orange, and you can taste it in your mouth. 10 to 12 years ago when this started happening every year, it didn’t bother me that much but I really notice it now.

Sounds like a scene from the TV show Fallout.

The playoff picture as of today.

Even when a 98-win team is playing an 86-win team, a playoff tournament can resemble a crapshoot. But that will even moreso be the case if you have a bunch of 90-wins vs 94-wins matchups.

I drove through Yellowstone on my way back from a visit to Detroit in 1988 and it was the day before they closed Yellowstone for the fires and the way the sun filtered through the smoke, your skin looked as yellow as a caution sign. It was really weird.

I’ve heard people assert that you can “build for the playoffs” and I don’t think that’s particularly true. There’s a randomness to every short series that can trip up even the most well constructed ball clubs. One bad call by an umpire, or one bad fielding play can release floodwaters of unpredictable results and wash away a series.

I think the only way you can somewhat "build for the playoffs" is to have a couple of aces.  A top heavy staff has an advantage in the playoffs with all the off days.  However, as we saw with Verlander and Scherzer, even that doesn't necessarily work.

I feel like given that if you are a playoff team then you have "good" players, the differentiator is a good bullpen and good defense.  So if the idea is to build a playoff team you make you are as good as you can be in those areas.  If you get into the playoffs then you probably already have 2 good starters, at least.  And you probably have a good offense.  But when runs are scarce and every at bat is critical over a 3-5-7 game series those are the elements that prevent that single in the hole that scores the runner from 2nd. ANd the bullpen shuts down the late rally.

Should not take this team for granted. The Yankees were just swept by an inferior team. Need to sweep them.

Indeed, the White Sox took two of three from the Phillies and we were only able to squeeze out one win in three. I’m sure the Tigers are not celebrating that they’re merely playing the Twins tonight. Todd Jones was pouring some love on Buxton in the pregame by the way.
