Hinch also took encouragement from the performance of Rafael Montero who threw 1⅔ innings. He gave up two earned runs off a homer, but that was the only blemish.

“I think Montero is one pitch away from having an excellent weekend,” Hinch said.

You know what made this an even more excellent day for Tigers fans? Cleveland lost as the Tigers won, so the Tigers (68-51) are back to six games up with 43 to play .

But not everything was perfect for the Tigers.

The Tigers are still trying to get right-hander Tommy Kahnle back on track. The reliever pitched a low-leverage situation but gave up another earned run – his 18th in his past 14 appearances – a complete regression considering he gave up just seven earned runs in his first 31 appearances.

“We've got to get Tommy going,” Hinch said. “Part of that's going to be pitching him more regularly, and maybe not pitching him when one mistake can dominate the day.”

Paddack and Flaherty Russian roulette to start the series....then a bullpen game or call up on Wednesday. I'll happily take two games and run.

I tend to mix up Ethel Merman, Kate Smith and Shelly Winters. Same with Harold Lloyd and Buster Keaton. Don't get me started on Sebastian Cabot.......

Crazy it has been that long. My guess either Greene or Carp are the next to do it.

Statement on how long the rebuild took. They have a chance for a trio of 30+ guys this year

So.......let's hope that Elvis will only be in the building for a short time tonight.

Presley died 48 years old this week. The night he died, my parents, my three siblings and I got washed out of a KOA campground in Lake Placid, NY. We packed up the tent in a torrential downpour at 2am and piled into our car and hoofed it out of there towards Vermont. The first half hour on the radio was one Elvis song after another, commercial-free. I remember thinking, hmm, I didn’t know Elvis was so huge in NY state. Then the DJ came on and explained to listeners like me that the King was dead.

The Cure commercials are literally the worst.  They annoy me more than all the commercials talking about toe fungus and constipation relief combined.

they are weird
