Shinzaki Posted April 5 Posted April 5 He barely played...you can’t expect rookies to produce when they aren't getting consistent minutes Quote
slothfacekilla Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 NDN signed his ELC and is coming to North America Quote
Jason_R Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I see speculation that the influx of players into GR means promotions for next season. What do the tea leaves say? Quote
slothfacekilla Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 It is certainly getting crowded down in Grand Rapids. I have to imagine some of them will fill spots vacated by pending free agents: Hamonic (obviously don't need him back) JVR (faded hard down the stretch after providing some nice depth at first) Perron (he's old even if I love his attitude) Kane (I can take or leave him, it is nice to have him on the PP, maybe they re-sign him another year partly in hopes it helps DeBrincat extend) Talbot (Just bring up Cossa already) Wallinder should be up unless he looks absolutely awful in camp, he has to go through waivers and someone would claim him. I don't see any other defenders down there making the jump. Buium's skating seems to still not be NHL level from what I see, I would be shocked if he's ready but I'm often wrong. Anton Johansson is an interesting wild card but still probably gets an AHL year. Danielson, MBN, and maybe Lombardi have a chance to make the team I think for the forwards. Probably not all of them. The NHL free agent class is absolutely awful so I don't know what the Wings will do with a decent amount of roster spots open. I wouldn't mind shooting Rasmussen into the sun to make further room too. 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Junior hockey player killed in a campus shooting in my hometown last night. I have friends with kids who played with him on his former team, Mooretown. https://nationalpost.com/news/local-news/one-man-dead-in-early-morning-shooting-at-lambton-college-sarnia-police/wcm/f542a641-d897-492d-9a33-ae25f8eb904e 3 Quote

Ras... maybe he can garner a draft pick and I don't really care which round it is... same thing, move him simply for the roster spot. Is Alex Tuch still hitting free agency? He's the one and only FA I go ALL OUT to sign (I mean, if I were SY...). And if I need to use the cash I would have spent on Kane to seal the deal and fit Tuch's expensive FA deal into the Wings salary structure... bye bye Kane. Love ya', and thank you so much for being here... but, it's just time for the Wings to go in a different direction. IMO. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted April 10 Author Posted April 10 I think Tuch hits free agency and gets insanely overpaid because he's the only free agent worth a damn, but once again I'm wrong a lot! Maybe he likes it in Buffalo after the winning... Quote

lordstanley Posted April 11 Posted April 11 (edited) Max Plante has won the Hobey Baker. Have the Wings ever had a prospect win this? None from the list of winners jumps out me as Red Wings, but I only recognize half the names. https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/awards/awarddetail.php?award_id=126 Edited April 11 by lordstanley 1 Quote

Pretty cool! Quote
Jason_R Posted April 11 Posted April 11 From way downtown. It's gonna be nice to have MBN back on the big league roster next season. 1 Quote

Pretty cool! Neat! I went back on clicked on all the past Hobey Baker winners. Like I said, I recognized about half. And that's about the proportion that had meaningful NHL careers. Now and then I'd come across a winner who played a few partial seasons in the NHL but whose name didn't really ring a bell. Fine. But then ...Tony Hrkac. I swear I've never heard this name in my life. Did he grow up in the same town as Kent Hrbek? So I click on his name and, hang on, 758 NHL GP in 17 NHL seasons between 1987-2003, for 9 different NHL teams! Even played in the NHL playoffs for 4 different teams. And I've never heard of him?! How is that possible, lol. 1 Quote
Hongbit Posted April 11 Posted April 11 Highlights from Augustine’s debut last night. Looks like GR was not very good in front of him. Had to make a number of massive saves to avoid a 6 goal thrashing. Quote
buddha Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Another late season fade by cossa. by all means bring him up, he'll fit right in. Quote

slothfacekilla Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 I watched footage of Augustine's first game and thought he looked good. His movement and style really reminds me of Jon Quick. But good god, did Grand Rapids' defense look absolutely awful in front of him. Gustaffson especially looked like crap and I thought that Buium had a rough game not being able to keep up with his foot speed. Whatever is going on there probably has a lot to do with Cossa's current results but I was shocked to see how the team looked. Quote
Jason_R Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Not promising that Buium and Wallinder are the third pairing. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted April 12 Author Posted April 12 On the plus side, Johansson has been great. It is intriguing that in both his North American stints so far his offense has greatly improved compared to his time in Sweden. If he shows some offensive touch that would be a huge boon for the Wings. He'd be what I hoped Wallinder was going to turn out to be so it would make that sting a lot less. Maybe it is just Red Wings depression but after watching that Augustine game I don't expect Buium to ever play in the NHL 1 1 Quote
buddha Posted 4 hours ago Posted 4 hours ago grand rapids gets beat again. cossa finishes with the worst save % on the team this year (he finished ahead of augustine, but he just got there so we'll cut him some slack). meanwhile, jesper wellstadt just started a playoff game and gave up 1 goal to dallas. #yzerplan.
