See the quote from Hinch above

Hinch? The guy who says he plays every day to win the game that day? Then with a 1 run lead and a fresh bullpen coming off an off day, he uses relief pitchers just up from Toledo and we lose? (Septenber 5th). His best arms out there sitting and watching? I bet he wishes he had that game back. He's like a politician. Don't believe anything he says.

I guarantee you if the Tigers still have the chance to win the division, he'll pitch Sunday. Home playoff games money is too big to resist. Another example of baseball being a business...

Gotta pay that Alex Cobb signing somehow.

As a fan, my dream is to save Skubal and win both Boston games while Cleveland loses one. It looks like, if thats the case, we would play Cleveland at Comerica? It would give Tarik a chance at revenge on the Guardians for not beating them in September.

If Skubal pitches Sunday, he would be pitching on 3 days rest for game 3 when most of the season he’s been on 5 days rest.

Playing the Indians in the first round would be like 1978 when the RedSox blew a 14 game lead and then lost the Bucky Dent game in 1978.

If Cleveland and Detroit are tied after game 162 and face each in the wildcard round, it would be very similar to 2009. The wildcard round would break the tie, the Tigers would be on the road, and the winner advances to the ALDS. Instead of Game 163 it would be Games 163-165.

Yes, 2009 is another example.  The Bucky Dent game is one of my favorite baseball memories and 2009 game 163 perhaps my worst.

I would rather have him start game 1 on the road in NY. or in Cleveland.

And if Skubal has to pitch Sunday, he probably wouldn't pitch in the wild card series. Unless there was a rainout? On 3 days rest is a asking a bit too much. Again....unless the Tigers score a ton of early inning runs and Hinch decides to pull him.

I think houston will take care of the problem today after they lose yet again.

Nothing like backing into the playoffs by losing almost everyone of their last 15 games or so.

I guarantee you he will not.

That's a fans emotional wish.

I don’t think anyone has ever accused me of being a fan ruled by my emotions before. Everyone else thinks I’m a saber robot.

Hinch will get a phone call from Chris telling him a home series is more important that who's pitching. Looking at it as a business instead of looking it as a fan will say winning the division is the smart play.

I say win the division without Skubal pitching Sunday. Give him another shot at beating Cleveland at Comerica in game 1.

12?

11 Tigers wins to a World Series title. 3 Tigers losses away from elimination. Better than 13:2 at the beginning of the wildcard round.

Since '84, the Tigers got to 6 wins away from a WS title in '87, 3 in '06, 6 in '11, 4 in '12, 6 in '13 and 9 in '24.

Technically we could lose 8 games and still win it all

Good point. The wins needed can only go down. However, while the losses to be eliminated can go down , that can also be re-set to a higher number at the beginning of a new series.

Yep, we already loss one but that doesn't mean a thing.  I think of it more of a wins thing before your time (losses) runs out with the clock resetting every series.
