1984Echoes Posted August 26 Posted August 26 (edited) I think it's time for this thread also to get started... General Detroit Lions topics outside of the game threads... First topic: After they set the 53... I'm going to guess subsequent practice squad: Starting with Hendon Hooker. I'm going to guess here that they try to keep him, on the practice squad... although DC might just be ready to move on (from his comments...). So this is maybe even less than 50/50. More like 25/75. But guys I think they will DEFINITELY try to keep by putting them on the PS: Deon Jackson, RB Jackson Meeks, WR Tom Kennedy, WR Kingsley Eguakun (I think he doesn't make the 53 but they want to keep him in the Org...) Mitchell Agude, Edge Nate Lynn, Edge Anthony Pittman, LB Nick Whiteside, CB Erick Hallett, DB Ian Kennelly, S Morice Norris, S I think the team actually LIKES a lot of these guys that they are releasing... they're releasing them early to try and slip them through the cracks... IMO. But... We'll see. Edited August 26 by 1984Echoes Quote
Motown Bombers Posted August 26 Posted August 26 Lions have three open spots on the roster and only three pass rushers. Za’Darius Smith will likely be signed. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted August 26 Posted August 26 (edited) Is the Ahmed Hassanein iniury that bad and maybe worse than we thought? Has he turned out to be not a cultural fit and they don't want him? Was his preseason hype all fan and media speculation? Why not give him one of the two IR designations? I guess the Lions did something similar with CJ Moore where he got hurt, they cut him, voided his contract, but somehow still got him back. I'm not normally surprised if a 6th round pick doesn't make the team, but Hassanein seemed to have a decent amount of fanfare and hype around him. I guess the organization didn't see him the way fans and the media did. Edited August 26 by Mr.TaterSalad Quote
Motown Bombers Posted August 26 Posted August 26 You can only activate so many players during a season from IR. They probably have a handshake agreement with Hassanein that he will sign when healthy. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted August 27 Posted August 27 The trading of Patrick and the signing of a special teams ace means Teslaa is WR #3. Quote
KnoxP Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Question: when a team makes a claim for a released rookie, does the rookie have any ability to “deny” the claim and not sign, essentially become a free agent? Waiving Meeks and trading Patrick has me thinking. It’s walking away from two good depth options, unless Meeks has the freedom to dictate a return. ? Quote
holygoat Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Getting a 6th for Patrick is more than I'd have thought was possible. Quote

If he is claimed, he is gone. They either must think he’ll get through, or they aren’t concerned if he doesn’t. Maybe they have a claim on someone they think is a better fit? Personally I hope he clears and joins the practice squad. 1 Quote
Jimbo Posted August 27 Posted August 27 I think the Hassanein move is just a good gamble by the organization. It could happen but I would be surprised if another team wants to take another teams late pick waiver wire pick up and put the player on IR or take a roster spot Quote

He settled with the Lions. He can sign with the Lions when his injury period is over. Quote

1984Echoes Posted August 27 Author Posted August 27 I'm waiting to hear the signing of Smith... Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted August 27 Posted August 27 No Lions players were claimed on waivers. All are free to sign to the practice squad. Lions picked up Tyler Lacy (DT, Jaguars) and Tyrus Wheat (DE, Cowboys). Roster is now 52. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted August 27 Posted August 27 Hooker to the Panthers and Martin to the Chiefs. Quote
