It figured they were due for a mistake after all that dancing around and say what you want about whether Larkin is a top or only a midline star, there are some things he does as well as anyone, and 3 on 3 is one of them. Shinzaki Posted October 18 Posted October 18 This team has more grit than last year's team..will see if it carries into March Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted October 18 Posted October 18 Wings survived that one last night. They really didn't win it. But that is encouraging. You have to have that element to make the playoffs. We've seen it the other way - where we pepper the other team and come away with nothing. And seriously, I was about to post that Larkin's got nothing left when he got that breakaway. He may have scored that just to get off the damn ice. That dude was exhausted. Quote

Yzerman has pointedly been trying to add more grit to this team for at least 3 or 4 years, both in his drafting as well as his FA signings... It's time it all comes together and this team is mentally and physically tough enough to get their asses into the playoffs. And that means no collapse after February please. Quote

Yeah - he said in the on ice interview that he was afraid someone was going to catch him from behind, but the Tampa guys had wasted so much of their own gas skating in circles they were done in too. lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Scoreless against Edmonton after 1. Wings limited the Oilers to 3 shots on goal. Not a lot of offense for the Wings but did have a few odd man breaks. Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 (edited) Larkin opens the scoring and then the Wings kill off a penalty immediately afterwards. Edited October 19 by lordstanley Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 (edited) Emmitt Finnie is an NHL goal-scorer! Edited October 19 by lordstanley 1 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Oilers get it right back on a seeing eye shot thrown from the point. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Maybe Stevie was right not trading away these young prospects? 1 Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Now Larkin too throws one at the net and it too sneaks in. 3-1 late in the 2nd. Quote
buddha Posted October 19 Posted October 19 oilers playing like a team in a matinee on a back to back. we'll take it. they woke up for a minute after the wings went up 2-0, but skinner gave it right back on that soft larkin goal. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted October 19 Posted October 19 We've seen this movie before. Early season success is great...better than falling way behind in the standings. Hopefully, Stevie gets another chance to bring in talent at the trade deadline. Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Edmonton made it 3-2 with 12:27 to go. Hasn’t been a whistle since and there is now just 3:30 to play. Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 (edited) 11 minutes without a whistle since the Edmonton goal with 12:27 to go ends in a Wings ENG with 1:22 to go. That should do it. Edited October 19 by lordstanley Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Impressive win. Oilers had only 18 shots on net. 2 goals and 4 points for Larkin. 2 goals for Finnie. Quote
slothfacekilla Posted October 19 Author Posted October 19 The kids are alright! I thought the third defense pair looked great today, good team win. 2 Quote
lordstanley Posted October 19 Posted October 19 Just before the empty netter, how did Draisaitl get so open and then how did he overskate it, lol. Quote

I thought it took a strange bounce in the neutral zone to make it happen so it was only fair he flubbed it! Quote

Great looking game! One complaint: Kane misses 1 game and we get nothing from below the 1st line? It's probably fine for a game here and there... It was perfectly fine today. But I still want to see secondary scoring go up. And not even the Cat-Kasper-Kane line because when all 3 are on the ice they're scoring... But I want to see the 3rd line develop into a scoring threat. What's the best 3rd line combo...? MBN-Copp-Appleton? I've got my eye on that... and... To be determined... Quote
