1984Echoes Posted Sunday at 05:20 PM Posted Sunday at 05:20 PM Going to be an interesting year... Both in chasing the playoffs... And in seeing who comes up from GR and plays for the Wings/ sticks (or not) with the Wings. Quote

buddha Posted Sunday at 07:17 PM Posted Sunday at 07:17 PM if the wings can make the playoffs with this many rookies playing key roles this season, it will really be something. Quote
lordstanley Posted Sunday at 07:40 PM Author Posted Sunday at 07:40 PM Wings are trailing 2-1 late in the 2nd so need to take advantage of this 4-minute powerplay. Quote
buddha Posted Sunday at 07:44 PM Posted Sunday at 07:44 PM well that was pathetic. they get justifiedly booed off the ice. Quote
buddha Posted Sunday at 07:44 PM Posted Sunday at 07:44 PM kane with a great set up for debtincat and he misses the net. danielson with a great set up for finnie and he fans on it. Quote

1984Echoes Posted Sunday at 08:20 PM Posted Sunday at 08:20 PM (edited) 1) We are seriously paying for minor indiscretions this game. 2) Arvid game of his life. 3) Can we get some of that? Postava or Cossa... I don't care. I just wanna "LOOK" at what we have and see where they are... 4) Why can't any Wing (mostly) find the net all of a sudden...? buddha Posted Sunday at 09:29 PM Posted Sunday at 09:29 PM when they have to beat florida or edmonton on the road in march ij order to stay relevant, remember losing to the blackhawks 5-1 at home. following up a 4-1 loss to the rangers. cancels out all the decent wins from the west coast trip. at least danielson is up. gives us something to watch. buddha Posted Monday at 02:50 PM Posted Monday at 02:50 PM They took kasper off the top line, kane has been out, and he's hit that slump. put him back with larkin and raymond and i think he's scorong more. the lines were working great last year when kasper was 1LW and copp was 2C. but they ditched that because they think kasper has to be a C. now copp is back to sucking, kasper has "hit a wall", and finnie is getting all the points scoring with larkin/raymond. move kasper up and finnie down to the checking line would be a way to get him started. It seems in hockey there are faciliators that make things go and players who can excel but only playing with those players. We saw it with Abdelkater and Datsyuk, and now we see with almost every Wing that plays with Larkin. Nothing wrong with having those guys on a team but you have to have enough facilitators to go around, and that is what the wings can not seem to come up with - and that's the big hope for Danielson isn't it? It's more than just having centers ser se - it's that particular skill set in a center and like Larkin it doesn't even need to be a 1st level all star. They want Kasper to be a center but he needs other players to lift him, at this point he isn't/can't lift the others he plays with. Kane has some of that from the wing just because he is such a precision passer. but he's no center. Edited Monday at 03:23 PM by gehringer_2 Quote

buddha Posted Monday at 05:12 PM Posted Monday at 05:12 PM one reason they struggle is because they dont have enough skilled talent on the team. they have "200 foot guys" who play hard but not a lot of natural goal scorers. raymond, larkin, debrincat....and ancient kane. that's about it. for a team picking in the top 10 for 10 yeaes, that's not great. i dont know enough about the league to compare them to other teams. but it doesnt seem like enough. They aren't built or going to be the Red Wings of old with multiple 80-90 point guys. They aren't going to be the Oilers or Avalanche of today either. They aren't going to beat you with skill and top-end talent alone. Without a true #1 center, allowing Larkin to slide to the second line, I don't think they can become that type of team either. Without one or more 90 point + producers on this team, they won't have the ability to beat you simply on the skill level and scoring ability of their players. And I don't see anywhere they can land a top center or a wing (multiple) capable of putting up 90+ points. Rather, this team has to be built in the vein of St. Louis in 2019, Vegas from the 2023, or the Florida Panthers from the past few years. They are going to need to be a hard forechecking, defensively smart team with great goaltending to back it all up. They're going to need tough, gritty forecheckers who can still score goals, while being a problem to play against by wearing you down over the course of a game. Larkin needs to be for us what Reinhart is for the Panthers. We need Bear, Brandsegg-Nygard, Danielson, and Finne to develop into what Bennett, Marchad, Tkachuk, and Verhaeghe are as forwards. We need Edvinsson, Sandin-Pelika, Sieder, develop into what Ekblad and Forsling are on defense. Last, but certainly not least, one of Augustine or Cossa has to develop into a goalie capable of stealing games on his own like Bobrovsky is as a goalie. slothfacekilla Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago Wings had some moments in the first against the Ducks but I thought they largely looked pretty bad. The Ducks' forecheck is causing a lot of problems for them as their defenders are really taking their time moving the puck out of the zone. They're probably lucky to be tied 0-0 still, Gibson made some good saves. I absolutely loathe having to listen to the Ducks broadcast! Quote

slothfacekilla Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Great to see the Wings going to the net a lot, their goals have largely been due to traffic in the slot. Gibson did not start the third. Might be hurt? Quote
