Gibson used to be really good on some bad Ducks teams so I was hoping he'd be used to a sub-par defense in front of him.  I do think he's having a lot of bad puck luck but he also isn't making many big saves and certainly isn't stealing any games.  It's a shame he doesn't seem to have a ton left in the tank but I appreciate the swing by the Wings, there weren't many options out there.

I turned the game off when they went down 2-0 last night, they looked really bad.

But Cossa.   Shouldn't he be taking it by now?  Shouldn't he be forcing the Wings to bring him up because he's so stellar?  Seems like it's taking an awfully long time with him

Jesper Wallstedt was drafted by The Wild in the same draft as Cossa. Wallstedt is already on the NHL roster and has played in 7 games this season so far with a 2.20 GAA and a .926 SV%. Meanwhile, Cossa has played in zero games this year and doesn't look to be getting called up any time soon, if at all this season. I don't know if this is more of an indictment on Yzerman, Cossa, McLellan, their developmental system, or a bit of each.

Cossa was up and down at the back half of the last AHL season, so it was tough to give him any sort of guarantee in the NHL this season especially with Talbot being old/an injury risk.  Fans especially seem to want the team to make the playoffs so it would have been a pretty volatile tandem with that in mind.

Goalies usually take time, I'm not personally worried with his timeline so far especially with him playing very well in Grand Rapids so far this season.  Askarov was a better prospect than him and drafted a season earlier, and he's just having his NHL breakout right now.  I suspect we'll see Cossa at points this season honestly but I'm personally not concerned he isn't in the NHL at the moment.  If he keeps up his play I don't see how they don't give him a look some time this season.

Does it bother you at all as a fan, or make you impatient with Cossa or Yzerman, that Wallstedt is currently on the NHL roster and looking good for The Wild? Wallstedt is a guy Yzerman passed on for Cossa and he was believed to be the more NHL-ready goalie at the time.

No it does not, before this season Cossa was a better prospect than Wallstedt based on their body of AHL work to date.  Wallstedt has largely looked not good before this season from what I've seen.  I don't see much value in making sweeping generalizations about drafting or development based on either the past AHL seasons or 7 NHL games this season.  Is it possible that Wallstedt ends up being better than Cossa?  Ya for sure, and he's looked good so far this season.  But goalies are strange and it is 7 whole games.

I know I’m the resident Augustine is the future guy but he’s absolutely on fire at the moment.  MSU has taken advantage of the new rules and has built a juggernaut of a team this year.    His size is the only thing holding him back as a prospect.  Everything he’s doing between the pipes is off the charts.  This kid continues to step up his game to every challenge.   I wouldn’t put it past him being ready for the NHL at some point next year.

One thing I can't fault Yzerman for is trying to fix the goalie position. He has drafted Cossa and Augustine. He has brought in a string of experienced goalies that seemed they could pay off like Bernier, Nedeljkovic, Husso, Lyon, Reimer, Talbot, Gibson. You'd think ONE of them would have turned into a reliable #1 by now. But noooooo.

as for cossa, one of talbot or gibson will be hurt at some point this year and cossa will have his shot.

It's going to be a fine line for Mac to walk. Talbot has been playing well but at 38 you just can't go to that well too often or he will either end up hurt or even just out of gas long before the end of the season.

Doesn’t seem likely at all.  The Wings have until August 2027 to sign him.    I don’t see him coming back to MSU for yet another year.  Where would he play next season?  His best option is to sign with the hometown team and start his pro career.

he could easily get paid to go back to msu for another season and then become a free agent.
