romad1 Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Long overdue considering the chaos in the program and with the AD. Quote
romad1 Posted 20 hours ago Author Posted 20 hours ago Per Sam Webb: Quote I’ve not confirmed this talk of an imminent hire. The rapid escalation would be a surprise, at least to me When Brohm didn’t escalate rapidly pre-Christmas (I.e. no face to face), the impression I got is it was a nod towards moving away from being bound by the clock. Not because the portal wasn’t pressing, but because there were other candidates they wanted look at (or try to wait on),. PLUS, there were still more questions about the targets that had already been looked at that still needed more attention before one of them could emerge as the one to go on. So like I said, working on confirmation of the imminent hire talk. Quote

Hongbit Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago From one of his old assistants when he left a few weeks ago. @Motor City Sonics - This part surprised me. “He will beat your ass in 60s/70s/early 80s Classic Rock Trivia. Album, song title, what’s on the album cover, where the band originates, who the lead singer is, who the lead singer’s replacement was, who the band members are, all that and more — he’s a freckin’ STUD. I was in awe as I had the Aux and tried to stump him while we were out recruiting and he nailed all the songs and provided detailed information on the things I said” Quote
romad1 Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago Do not mess this up and accidentally hire Tiger beat writer Jason Beck. Quote
romad1 Posted 17 hours ago Author Posted 17 hours ago Sam Webb confirms the talks are on track with Whit. Quote
MichiganCardinal Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Looks to be officially official. I like it. He’s old, but even If he can just give us five years and stabilize the program, he’ll be a great hire. Also good news for Underwood. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago What an amazing hire. I'm still in shock it got done. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Wittingham seems like a legitimately solid human being. He seems to be an ethical, honorable man, who leads young men and runs a football program the right way. He has been free of bad culture, recruiting violations, scandals, etc. during his time at Utah. I hope he'll be able to carry it over to Michigan and clean up things in their program and really the entire department. Quote
Mr.TaterSalad Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) The other thing I'm happy with is they didn't hire a Michigan Man for the job. Nothing worse than hiring someone just because one time, somewhere in the distant past they had some affiliation with the program. Oh his father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate once coached for Bo, let's hire him. They hired a guy based on the needs of the program and his qualifications for the job. They did not hired based on who he once knew in the past and any prior Michigan affiliations he might have had. I hope the Michigan Man things is dead and buried. With it, they can bury the legacy of the guy that potentially ran cover for a pedophile in Bo and Dr. Anderson. Edited 17 hours ago by Mr.TaterSalad Quote

It wasn’t so much “hire someone from Michigan” as it was “hire someone who knows how to play Big Ten football” Leave it to Dave Brandon to have that lead him to San Diego State University. Quote
buddha Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago its a good short term hire. probably the best short term hire they could get given the circumstances. he runs a similar style program that should fit the talent on the team. he doesnt have anything in his closet that we know of. the drawbacks are that he's not from here and will have to establish recruiting relationships with midwest schools. he's never coached in the big 10. he doesnt seem to have adapted to the new reality of NIL and money. that is the only hurdle i see. well, and that he's 66 and doesnt havr much time left. i would have preferred deboer or dillingham, but this is still a really good hire from an x's and o's and culture fit. besides, dude looks like he's been on the pete carroll workout plan and can probably coach until he's 80! lol. 1 Quote

Dude coached in Utah, if there were any shenanigans going on, they would have booted him years ago. Unless he has 3 wives, that's totally cool. 1 Quote

The "Michigan Man" thing came from Bo Schembechler when basketball coach Bill Frieder took a job at Arizona State just before the tournament in 1989 and thought he was going to coach Michigan in the tournament. Bo said no, he wanted a "Michigan Man" and Steve Fisher coached them to a title. Ironically, Bo Schembechler was more of an Ohio State Man than a Michigan Man when he got hired. When does the ink dry for Whit? Once it does can we finally clean house at the top. He's got to go. All of this nonsense has happened under his watch - he's just got to go. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago I think Whit stays only 3 years and then hangs it up, but in plenty of time for Michigan to find the right replacement. Jesus, General Hospital is still around? I haven't watched daytime TV since my foot surgery in 2019. A lot of medicare ads on during the day. I seem to have to be recovering from hospitals to watch daytime TV. Quote

The last three UM presidents, Ono, Schlissel, Coleman, had no previous tie to UM before their appointment. The three before that all did - Shapiro as in the Econ dept, Bolinger at the Law school, Duderstadt at Engin. But none were alums or ex-faculty coming back from somewhere else. Here's a wild guess: Alec Gallimore. Edited 15 hours ago by gehringer_2 Quote
