Tigeraholic1 Posted Friday at 08:51 PM Posted Friday at 08:51 PM (edited) Sounds like the players didin't like the Mormon grandpa hire.... Edited Friday at 08:51 PM by Tigeraholic1 Quote
romad1 Posted Friday at 09:32 PM Author Posted Friday at 09:32 PM Looks like they will get the DC from Utah. Tony Alford (responsible for recruiting Hiter) is staying and he was a major "get" and they are sending Whit to Orlando to work the roster to get players to stay with the program. Quote
Deleterious Posted Friday at 09:45 PM Posted Friday at 09:45 PM The Utah DC is Scalley, and he is taking over for Whittingham next year. He is not coming to Michigan. Quote

romad1 Posted Friday at 10:10 PM Author Posted Friday at 10:10 PM This is interesting content from the fellows at MGBLOG Quote Who might come with him? DC Morgan Scalley is the new head coach and won't. The rest of the Ute coaching grouped into probably, maybe, and probably not. PROBABLE OC Jason Beck. Ton of time spent in Utah but just one with Utah itself, so he's not super attached to the school yet. Also he is an offensive coordinator who is looking at the chance to coach Bryce Underwood. Gotta figure that's tough to pass up. UPDATE: Matt Zenitz says Whittingham is going to try to bring Beck. TE coach/RC Freddie Whittingham. Freddie is Kyle's brother. MAYBE OL coach Jim Harding. 12 years at Utah under Whittingham and a guy who's probably torn between staying and going; Michigan has ~five experienced, good young OL who came up under Grant Newsome—who seems like a Whittingham kind of guy through and through. Also if Beck does come to Ann Arbor, Harding might be promoted to OC at Utah. Best case scenario might be Harding as OL coach, Newsome back to TE, and Freddie Whittingham back to a GM-type role he previously had at Utah. WR coach Micah Simon. Came with Beck from New Mexico. Just three years as a full coach; BYU WR from 2015-19. Ron Bellamy brought in Andrew Marsh and keeping Marsh has to be a major priority. There doesn't appear to be a compelling reason to bring Simon unless Beck just loves the guy. LB coach Colton Swan. Seven years at Utah; before that a ton of time at Weber State. Very much a Utah guy but not a Ute. Don't think Jean-Mary will be a priority to retain for Whittingham, but neither is he an obvious guy to move on from. PROBABLY NOT RB coach Mark Atuaia. RB coach various Mormon-ish places (BYU, Virginia under Bronco Mendenhall, Washington State (an exception), Utah. Atuaia may be a fine coach but he does not have a running back room set to add Savion Hiter because of Tony Alford; Alford should be a priority to retain. DT coach Luther Elliss. Former Ute All-American, first round pick, and Detroit Lion. Has been with Utah since 2022 and probably sticks with Utah. DE coach Lewis Powell. More or less the same thing: Powell is a Utah program alum who's been with the Utes for 11 years. CB coach/ST Sharrieff Shah. Ute alum, 14th season with Utah, has a son on the team. Quote

romad1 Posted Saturday at 12:07 AM Author Posted Saturday at 12:07 AM Woah Nelly! Utah led the nation in rushing yards? I'm down with that. Also the OL coach is a good one. Do what you can to keep Newsome and him and Alford? Quote

The thing that offends me about all of the Michigan talent is that its possible its Paramount/Ellison/Emirati/Saudi money and part of the unconscionable stink of stuff that belongs in the political forum. But If our tiny nation state of Michigan is going to survive in this chaos, then we'd better build our own nuclear weapons by hook or by crook. Quote

I don’t see him as going rogue as much as I see him telling the truth. I take him to be a straight shooter. They named him interim for the bowl, that comes with a media circuit, he was asked hard questions, he answered with the hard truth. Play Where’s Waldo with The Regents and Warde, except it’s a transcript of Poggi’s comments and the game is Where’s the Lie. If there was some media narrative line he was supposed to toe, he’s probably not the guy for the job. And all of that aside it’s not like Michigan was likely to do better than Whittingham (at least not from the moment Alabama came back against Oklahoma). Poggi has said all the right things since not getting the job. I’m sure he won’t be on Whittingham’s staff, but I hope he lands on his feet. Quote
Hongbit Posted Saturday at 07:08 PM Posted Saturday at 07:08 PM Biff Poggi was a millionaire many times over before getting into coaching football. He will be just fine in whatever hobby he chooses next. Quote

romad1 Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago Whit's presser lessons learned. He's been a college football coach for long enough not to answer directly the question about Sherrone Moore beyond saying it was a series of unfortunate events. Smooth. Knows how to talk to people quickly and without insulting them. Quote
romad1 Posted 21 hours ago Author Posted 21 hours ago I liked when they tried to ask him about Orlando and he turned it into a story about how Orlando is the greatest city on earth with the warmest most genuine citizens of any place. Quote
