The fact that McDaniel went to an OC position raises the stakes on Detroit’s decision not to pursue him. I feel cautiously optimistic about Petzing but I find it hard to believe that McDaniel would have been anything less than a home run, even if he was packing his bags for a HC role in 2027.

He's not exciting.   He's not the It Girl.      He's Steady Eddie.   He is a lot like Andy Reid, who was not exciting, until he finally found the right QB.  Something tells me 42 year old Aaron Rodgers won't be it. 

 

But look at PIttsburgh's coaching record since 1969  - Only 3 - and none of them were exciting, but they just coached well.  Chuck Noll's the best coach in league history in my opinion.   Pittsburgh was a laughing stock like the Browns and Lions when he took over.  He turned them into a world class team in 3 years and they have had very high standards since then.

That's it Noll, Cowher, Tomlin were not exciting coaches. Cower and Tomlin came from the Noll coaching tree. McCarthy is older, he's a QB whisperer supposedly, he won't be around for the next 7 years or so. At the same time he's a Pittsburgh guy, a placeholder to reset the ship and hopefully setup the next guy. Pittsburgh ownership is also in a state of flux so again he fits in well with that organizaation.

Schwartz would be the first, full time Lions Head Coach to get another Head Coaching job after being fired by The Lions. I know **** Juron was technically the first former Lions coach to get another full time job. But Juron was only the interim coach here. This could be one more step in breaking the curse if Schwartz gets this job.
