Motown Bombers Posted Saturday at 08:21 PM Posted Saturday at 08:21 PM Campbell gave up play calling to an inexperienced TE coach hired by Matt Patricia. Not sure it means he wants to call plays. Quote

I think they are looking for fresh perspective, up and coming ideas or new ideas... etc. Dan may actually call plays if one of those guys were hired by the Lions... But I think it would only be short term... until they (the three of Goff/ new OC/ and DC) were certain they were all on the same page with playcalling, specifically during game situations... Which aren't fully realized (as a new playcaller) until those situations are actually staring him in the face. IMO. I don’t know how they think so it could be possible. I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn’t be stupid enough to go into next year with a person calling plays that has never been an OC at any level. This also may be a way to get around the NFL hiring rules. A team can’t block another team from hiring one of their assistants if it’s a promotion. Hiring someone’s QB coach and calling them OC is a great way to steal an up and comer from another organization. Quote
1984Echoes Posted Saturday at 08:23 PM Posted Saturday at 08:23 PM Exactly. So I don't think Dan Campbell WANTS to be the playcaller. I think he would be OK with it for just a few games... to make certain "the new guy", or at least, I mean a new guy who is new to actual playcalling... that everyone is on the same/ right page. Just my 2 cents. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted Saturday at 08:27 PM Posted Saturday at 08:27 PM Who are the experienced OC that are available? They already contacted probably the best one available. Quote
Jason_R Posted Sunday at 12:15 AM Posted Sunday at 12:15 AM Owners, this guy is too weird to be your head coach. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted Sunday at 10:30 AM Posted Sunday at 10:30 AM So how about Matt LaFluer as OC? Quote

Benjamin could have gone to the Panthers in 2024 but bet on himself, waited a year to bolster the resume, and landed a better opportunity. Hypothetically, if McDaniel gets an offer from both the Lions (for OC) and Browns (for HC), which would put him in a better position in 2029? Quote

I wonder if Blough got an offer elsewhere and he gave the Commanders right of first refusal. I don’t think it would have been the Lions, he’d be crazy to take the Commanders offense over the Lions. But something fishy happened there. It could be too that Tee Martin’s agent is fishing for interviews. Is Tee Martin just a Rooney Rule check box interview? Quote

Pretty sure the theme is that all the candidates are human, which honestly is pretty limiting. When you consider there are billions more creates on earth than just humans Campbell is really limiting his options by only considering humans. Quote

They could probably just interview Scottie Montgomery and David Shaw though if they didn't at all care for Martin... Looking at Martin's resume, I'm guessing they are interested in hiring him for Passing Game Coordinator, but can't interview him for that, even though the Ravens don't have a coach. Quote

I believe the Rooney rule forces them to interview a candidate outside the organization. Teams used to get around it by doing token interviews with their own staff. Quote

MichiganCardinal Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Though if memory serves, McDaniel satisfies the rule. The 49ers got a draft pick when he went to Miami. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Did Washington interview a black candidate? They promoted Blough pretty fast. Does it apply for promotions? Quote

Motown Bombers Posted 39 minutes ago Posted 39 minutes ago Between Campbell, Sheppard, Fipp and McDaniel, the Lions would certainly have the most interesting press conferences in the league. Quote
