The announcers are gushing about how well Max Clark handles the media. The Pirates minor league guys have allowed four runs with bad pitching and bad fielding contributing to it all. Still only one out in the top of the second the bases loaded. DP ends the inning.

In today’s March 21 game at Lakeland against the Yankees Valdez is the starter and both the Tigers and Yankees have TV feeds and there’s a Tigers radio feed as well.

There’s still two more games. Sunday is an off day and then Monday and Tuesday the Tigers play the Rockies in Scottsdale. Then another off day, then the season begins in San Diego on Thursday.

The Yankees are not bringing their “A Team” to Lakeland today. No Judge for instance. Although their starter Schlittler is pretty good. It’s an unfortunate name because it rhymes with “Hitler” and it makes a reference to something unpleasant in other regards as well. It’s like one of those “boys named Sue“ sort of things. He knew he had to get tough or die.

Two days after the Tigers open their home schedule behind Framber Valdez on Friday, April 3, Verlander will make his first start back in a Tigers uniform on Sunday Night Baseball April 5 against the Cardinals. His first pitch is scheduled for 7:20 p.m. ET. The game will be streamed on Peacock.
