As i've said before when every above-average player is putting up historical numbers: this is just steroid baseball era all over again.  brady anderson and luis gonzalez belting 50 home runs.  the nba players dont care about defense and the league has made it too easy to score.

i understand the players are better, but theyre not THIS MUCH better.

It's crazy to think 5 years ago Vegas had 0 professional sports teams. Now they are about to get their 4th. Well, three and the Athletics.

If you're proposing moving one of the bad teams (like SAC) to these new cities, I'm cool with that idea. Just not 2 more teams to water down the league even more.

Is the talent pool watered down, or is the current system of load management and/tanking creating an inferior product?  Because with basketball becoming more of an international sport with more international players, shouldn’t we be seeing more talent?

The talent level is probably sufficient for expansion. The more pressing issue is availability. You can have the best restaurant in town, but if a third of the menu is unavailable every time you walk in, it stops mattering how good the kitchen is. That's the NBA's real problem right now.

i dont know how you solve it.  make their contracts on a game by game basis?  if you arent available you dont get paid?

That would punish those with legitimate injuries.  Independent doctors to verify injuries?  I don't know.

I don't know if you get there via the players, maybe via the team. Something like team bonus money distributed based on winning percentage. You'd probably need to institute a league wide payroll tax to pay for a system with enough $ to make it work, so it probably couldn't happen, but it would be an approach that creates the right incentives - esp since now you'd have team mates pressing each other to play to win. The weakness remaining is that if you are facing a really determined tanking team, you can still win with guys sitting, so I guess you'd have to go after both issues.

Sacramento has gone 5-5 in their last 10 games.  They went from the worst record to the 4th worst.  That means now they could drop all the way down to #9 in the lottery.
