I hated Jerry Hairston's kid because of his dad's single with two out in the ninth. When Pat Underwood made his Tigers' debut by pitching against his brother Tom. It ended up being a 1-0 pitchers' duel won by Pat. Being at the 1986 home opener and seeing the stadium go from the ultimate high of the first pitch, only to see Dwight Evans hit the first pitch by Jack Morris go over the fence (we were behind home plate) and quiet us down quickly. But I think the Tigers won that game. Dave Bergman's two home run games against the Blue Jays in 1984 with the Roy Lee Jackson game being the big one. Watching Disco Demolition at Comiskey Park during a DH with the Tigers. It was supposed to be a single game but became a DH and local TV broadcast the twinbill because they initially were planning on covering the only game on that date. Good thing they did because watching what happened on the field was pretty entertaining. Attending the last game at Tiger Stadium will always be my favorite Detroit sports history memory, even if the Lions win a Super Bowl. The last game of the 1987 regular season. There are others but I'm on deadline and probably should be doing my job. 🙂 All great memories. So many games are memorable. The first JV no-hitter..the 2nd JV no-hitter....and about 50 other games.... 1 Quote
chasfh Posted yesterday at 07:22 PM Posted yesterday at 07:22 PM The most memorable game I have ever been to is the Magglio walkoff in 2006, and a close second is the Saturday 12-inning walkoff the second to the last day of 1987. Some of the other memorable games I've been to include: Shohei pitching a one-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader in 2023 Henderson Alvarez no-hitter in Miami in 2013 The ALDS clincher against the Yankees in 2006, in which A-Rod batted eighth! Tigers' first-ever regular season game in Wrigley in 2000. (We lost 😢) The second-to-last game ever in Tiger Stadium in 1999 Bobby Higginson three-homer game in 1997 Tram and Lou's last game together in Baltimore 1995 Ken Griffey Sr and Ken Griffey Jr playing in the same game 1990 Cecil Fielder's roof shot in 1990 Kirk Gibson's roof shot in 1983 George Brett's three-homer game in 1983 Hank Aaron's only Tiger Stadium home run in 1975 My first-ever game in 1972 against the Texas Rangers, a game in which Ted Williams had a duty to perform Quote
theroundsquare Posted yesterday at 08:04 PM Posted yesterday at 08:04 PM i've been thinking about this thread and there are so many games i could list. i'll just offer a few that stand out to me. first, ones i was fortunate to attend June 1994 -- Lou's grand slam to win the game September 2003 -- Tigers avoid infamy by beating the twins October 2006 -- first playoff game at Comerica Park October 2006 -- Magglio's homer game October 2012 -- Miggy K's to end the world series September 2014 -- Tigers clinch the central i have a practice of going to the last home game of the year whenever possible. i've seen some cool stuff. the Tigers clinch, other teams clinch, the Tigers dither away a division on tv, game 163 from 2009, game 5 of the 2011 division series, and game 5 of the seattle series last year stand out to me. Tenacious D Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I would have thought a few of you old farts would have mentioned when Fidrych beat the Yankees on Monday Night Baseball in ‘76. 1 Quote

One of my favorites, and I'm old. For me, the final game of 1968. Other than the game that became the first date with the most wonderful woman on the planet. ON EDIT: and we almost got a ball. romad1 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago I saw a 1977 Fydrich start in which he was very good. I can't recall the team he played although i think it was the blue jays. Quote
romad1 Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago This is insane...from his 1976 season. Quote On May 31, Fidrych pitched an 11-inning, complete-game victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.[8] On June 5, he pitched another 11-inning, complete-game victory over the Texas Rangers in Arlington.[9] Fidrych continued to pitch well heading into the All-Star break: Quote
oblong Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago One game that always gets mentioned in lists like this, outside of those with playoff implications, is the 1998 game against the Cubs. I was there and it seems like everybody else was. I had just started working, shirt and tie kind of job, recently married, and met friends there on the way home from Warren. So there I am in July at a game in a shirt and tie. Kerry Wood pitched. Matt Anderson made his MLB debut, threw one into the backstop during warmups, Sammy Sosa hit a HR breaking Rudy York's record for HR In a month. I believe he got a curtain call. 1 Quote

Biff Mayhem Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Games I’ve attended that stand out in my mind: As mentioned above, Cubs in 1998. I still have the ticket stub. Last game at Tiger Stadium Cabrera walk off homer August 17, 2013 Kenny Rogers game 2006. It was absolutely electric in that park. Quote

I have always suspected that his career ending injury had more to do with the insane number of innings he pitched as a rookie more than overcompensating for his Spring training knee injury. Quote
CMRivdogs Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I remember a game at Comerica against the Cubs, probably in 2001 when the flagpole was still in play in CF. Sammy Sosa hit a bomb to CF, did his home run hop then watched ball get caught by the centerfielder. It was probably the only highlight of that series. Quote

That wasn't the only time he did the hop only to fly out. Sammy was a goldfish when it came to that kind of thing. 1 Quote
