It was actually a reference to the past series at the Mets.  But I had forgotten about this one.

Beltre was everything right about baseball. Having fun while playing. Remember Miggy rubbing his head and watching Beltre getting all upset with him. Apparently, Miggy knew he didn't like his head rubbed....lmao

I think Beltre was more defensive about the head touch than the cup check.

Yeah, I saw that game. Umpires were worried the pitchers couldn't see the time clock. So they delayed the game a few times to move the on deck circle instead of doing it in between innings. And Jason wouldn't let it go.....

Also, 2 mighty fine players. Beltre was pretty remarkable, playing a very good defensive game for many years. And he could really rake...

That game was the Junior Valentine show that nobody asked for.

There’s some long history of Beltre not liking being touched on the head before this Miggy exchange.  I remember seeing a video compilation of it.

Jason giving a peptalk about “you just wait till the Tigers are healthy“ so yeah, let’s just wait until Meadows gets back and is slamming doubles and home runs all over the park… of course I have a bad attitude right now, and everybody should rightfully tune me out.

Oh yes, that’s legendary.  He had a teammate, a shortstop, that continuously got him, especially during mound visits.

Andrus I think.  But then there would be opposing players who would mess with him when they got to third base and he’d get so pissed.

I'm probably with you on that.   We didn't have nearly the information or the cynicism we have now.

Can you imagine the webz today if a team likw 1968 was running out a ss/3B combo batting .135 & .200?    With OPS of .399 & .556?    Yet somehow that team won 103 games.

During the Year of the Pitcher, it was good to have the King Pitcher.

So the Blue Jays are doing “pitching chaos“ today while we have a real starter? Have I just entered an alternate timeline where the world is suddenly going to get better?

At the risk of jinxing—as if that were a real thing—five innings in, I would say, yeah.

Tork celebrating “strike out cancer weekend“ at Comerica Park by, unfortunately, striking out again.

I thought it was another "I Love The Military" weekend? Man, so hard to keep up ...
