UCFKNIGHT Posted May 30 Posted May 30 The Tigers 2026 season has been a disaster, but the SF Giants broke the spirit of the Detroit Tigers organization when they swept the 2012 World Series. Dave Dombrowski hires Brad Ausmus when Jim Leyland retires. Dombrowski is fired and Ausmus was a failure. Al Avila was a below average GM. Ron Gardenhire used the Tigers to just grab some cash. Gardenhire's heart wasn't in the job. Al Avila hires AJ Hinch after he and the Houston Astros disgraced the game. 2024 and 2025 now look like fraudulent seasons. Our Tigers haven't done very much correctly since 2012. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted May 30 Posted May 30 IDK if it's been all down hill over all, but I would say that the day before Scherzer turned down a contract from the Tigers was day the team had the most *potential* to be great of any day since then. Quote

diaspora04 Posted Saturday at 07:33 PM Posted Saturday at 07:33 PM It was the 8th inning of game 2 of the 2013 ALCS, not the SF sweep the year before, that broke the Tigers. Quote

oblong Posted Monday at 01:53 AM Posted Monday at 01:53 AM Those teams, I believe, were overrated. The fact they didn’t win it all from 2011-2014 as some travesty is overblown. They were playoff caliber yea but they never even had home field advantage in any series. In 2012 they almost didn’t make the playoffs. Check the standings the final week. It was a lot of fun and a great run and I think 2013 was the year they could have but… oh well. I’m going to be grateful for the good tome 2 Quote

I’m going to be grateful for the good tome It’s probably accurate to say the Tigers were a legitimately good team inflated to look great by the weak division around them. They did have a +172 run differential in 2013 so that was a legit great team. But they also played only .500 ball outside the division in 2011 and 2012, and it would be hard to argue that a perennial powerhouse would go 45-45 against the rest of the baseball for two years running.
