Maybe amidst all the yapping in the U.S. dressing room at the Olympics, Quinn Hughes told Larkin he had wanted to be traded to the Wings from the Canucks but that Yzerman didn’t commit to what it takes to get a deal done. And that getting out of a toxic mediocre (at best) situation like Vancouver was the best thing he has ever done.

HaHa - that would be a great story.

Buddha is almost certainly correct that simple is true, but the possibilities are a lot more fun.

and doing a good job of killing that legacy there....:classic_laugh:

Yes, I expected the joke. But if not for the legacy they’d probably be gone already, so the power of the legacy is strong.

well I'm flippant  because the whole situation with the Wings before this dropped was totally depressing to me, so I can only hope this becomes the chance to reset things that seemed to be going nowhere. Seriously - this is so perfect for the Wild I find it hard to believe that few people with a few brains can't come up with a huge win-win for Wings and the Wild and maybe a third team as well. That's why I think the sturm and drang about the 3 team list is immaterial. The target team is obvious. Get'er done.

I think fans think a lot more about how much a player cares about his 'legacy' somewhere than a player does. All that 'legacy' plus $5 gets him a Vente. Also a clarification to the story above: It may have been years in Det before Yzerman got a cup, but he was in the playoffs almost every year from his rookie season and they got to the conference finals by his 4th year. His team was regularly getting their shot, so no comparable level of futility.

And unlike the later 90s teams those early teams didn't have a lot of natural talent.

Yes, he clearly seems to want to go to the Wild. I think Buddha made the point that if it is the Wild, Wallstedt and a third team would need to be involved, and I think this is right… and makes the deal Larkin wants really complicated.

Also, he really pissed Stevie off. Don’t make Stevie angry. You won’t like him when he’s angry. 😂

somebody has to go to a bad team so the Wings can get a high 1st round pick.

if he goes to edmonton its either in a salary dump for nurse that's part of a larger trade, or for howard or matty savoie.

I saw that rumor circulating again on Twitter but it seems like it was just more Edmonton fanfic.

Nico Hischier for Dylan Larkin straight up. Hischier is 2 1/2 years younger and as good as Larkin, but an extension beyond his remaining year would be higher than Larkin’s cap hit.

Would be a fair trade (if Nico will sign an extension) and would get Dylan playing with a Hughes brother.

Woke up to some substack think piece in my email about how it is actually very brave for Dylan Larkin to do this and it would be soft to stay in Detroit.  Haven't hit unsubscribe that fast in a while!

LOL - yeah - biggest indictment I've seen of Dylan so far is that Carlos Monarrez supports him.

thinking big picture, minny should be calling everyone in the league trying to get a third team to make this work.

if yzerman traded larkin to new jersey, quinn hughes is almost as good as gone.  playing with his brothers AND his best bud?  see ya.

Were I Yzerman I would play hardball. Hey buddy, you're in year 4 of an 8 year contract, you don't want to go to Team X, enjoy your next 4 seasons around here. I get that Larkin has a No Movement Clause in his contract, but we're under no obligation to trade him. I want to trade him. I think we should trade him. But I'm not sending him to only where he wants to go for a crappy return. I'm making sure I get a deal that is equitable and mutually beneficial.

I don’t think they need a 3rd team. You may not like it but Wallstedt along with 2 recent 1st rounders in Stramel and Yurov would probably entice Stevie.

Yzerman won’t even have one more full season here if the only return for Larkin is a $8.7M cap hit.

you talk about him like he's not a team legend and he's just an ordinary, regular ol' nhl gm.

if anything, he'd move upstairs.

An absolutely awful GM is the one deciding.
