I agree with this. I actually thought Robertson was too good of a return to expect before realizing what that contract will look like. Quote
Shinzaki Posted July 13 Author Posted July 13 You're not getting Robertson...you're getting the right to match his offer sheet because it's doubtful he signs here..or you can take futures, that Yzerman doesn't want because it forces him to start looking at resetting the rebuild Quote

slothfacekilla Posted July 13 Posted July 13 I don't think Robertson wants to leave Dallas, at least not on this contract. I'm guessing he wants to go through with arbitration and walk to UFA next offseason where he will be eligible for a no trade clause (he can't get one right now). Then he can sign with whoever he wants without being worried about the Stars trading him right after signing a long term deal with them this offseason. So he's asking the Stars for a ton of money and rejecting any other team's sign and trade offers so that happens. But just my guess. Quote

You wonder why I'm so down on Yzerman - it's because it was pretty clear from the day Larkin decided he wanted out, there was not ever going to be a deal that brought current players of equal value back to Detroit. Maybe it would have been possible if the Wings big need were on D and you could swing an F for D trade, but no-one was ever trading you back a center for a center, which was the Wings biggest need even BEFORE Larkin bailed. That meant Yzerman had his best chance to make a deal for youth/picks before the draft, and he turned his nose up at it. Now the Wings are stuck and it was totally predictable. I'll tip my hat if he finds a way out of this. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted July 14 Posted July 14 If they trade Larkin for Jason Robertson then Andrew Copp becomes our #1 center. If anyone thinks or Stevie thinks we're a playoff team with Andrew Copp as our top center, then go watch a lot more hockey from every other team in the league. With Copp as our #1 center and Robertson and Raymond as his linemates, we'll be bad enough to clearly miss the playoffs, but not good enough to get a top 3 lottery pick. Congratulations Stevie, you will have made your team the Joe Dumars/Stan Van Gundy Pistons from 2010-2019. Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Realistically, how many games is this team winning with this forward lineup next year? If Larkin gets traded it with the intent that we will still be competitive next year there HAS TO BE a center coming back in return. If you trot out a lineup of forwards like this you're talking about a 30-35 win team. A team where it is just above the lottery percentages needed to get a top 3 pick more than likely. I made a thread on the old boards back in 2014 about firing Holland. There were fans who saw early on what a disaster Holland was becoming because we caught onto the patterns of behavior he was exhibiting when it came to roster construction. Everyone laughed and ridiculed us. In the end, we were right, Holland did a piss poor job and this organization suffered immensely as a result. I can only hope Yzerman doesn't make the same mistake as Kenny, bury his head in the sand, and not succeed. I want this team to be good, but on the current trajectory, they won't be anytime soon I fear. Edited July 14 by Mr.TaterSalad Quote

buddha Posted July 14 Posted July 14 i actually dont think ep40 works if they get robertson. the salaries will be too much, especially if you throw in debrincat and the edvinsson extension. it would be a good time to have a lot of quality depth second round picms you could plug into the roster real cheap....alas.... 1 Quote
