AlaskanTigersFan Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I do not want this to happen but I'm bored. But what are some trades you'd do to strengthen the Tigers if they keep everyone and go for it. Here's my ideas: Trade Torkelson, Liranzo and Max Anderson to San Fran for Devers, Luis Arraez and Orion Kerkering Trade Max Clark, H. Lee, Jack Flaherty to the Twins for Joe Ryan and Keaschall Trade Rainer and Briceno to the Rockies for Moniack, and Troy Johnston Trade Valdez to the Red Sox for Chapman New lineup: 1 - Johnston - RF 2. Moniack - CF 3. McGonigle - SS 4. Greene - LF 5. Arraez - 3B 6. Devers - 1B 7. Dingler - C 8. Keaschall - DH 9. Keith - 2B Rotation Skubal Joe Ryan Mize Montero Melton Bullpen Kerkering Chapman Drew Anderson Will Vest Kenly Jansen Ty Madden The rest I don't really care about whose on the bench. Now that boys, is a world series team. What would be your trade ideas? Quote
Tenacious D Posted July 16 Posted July 16 So happy you’re not our GM. These trades would set the franchise back by at least 110 years. 1 1 2 Quote

This is just an exercise (albeit dramatic). But what trades would you guys all see? As far as I'm concerned, not selling is borderline treason. So if we wanted to win a World Series, what trades would you do to get a ring? Quote
Hongbit Posted July 16 Posted July 16 One deal is all that’s needed - Max Clark for Mason Miller. Quote
Sports_Freak Posted July 16 Posted July 16 I have been thinking that the Tigers could actually be buyers and sellers. Trade Skubal for a couple of players who could help us now, not prospects who may or may not ever be ML players? I have no idea who but I would think it would have to be players who are under team control for at least 2 years? Quote

Merrill has been terrible this year but they wouldn’t have to punt on him. Keep him and figure out who plays center and who goes to left. They’d do freaking cartwheels if someone was willing to take that Tatis contract off their hands. Quote

And the fact that 95% of the people posting here are delusional thinking if we keep Skubal we can win the World Series. So if they want to win the World Series so bad, I think this is what it'd take to do that. Not just sit with the team we have. On top of that, it was just meant to be a fun exercise of what trades people would like to see if the Tigers were actually going for it. I wouldn't do any of the deals I mentioned as I am the #1 fan of being a seller this year. But that's what it'd take to put us in the WS conversation. Although Hongbit was nice enough to indulge in a trade that'd make the team better. Sure would make some games more exciting. (Would screw us for the next decade almost as much as NOT trading Skubal, but at least he partook in the exercise). 1 Quote

They would need to make sure to move enough $ to get under the luxury tax for the draft pick reasons - Send out more than Miller would cost for the rest of the season, but that's the type of player that may be worth Clark IMO. And I'll just say, my roster's pretty good 🙂 I think ya'll are not understanding the point of this thread. I'm a little concerned with the mental health around here. Let me re-explain. If the Tigers were to go for it, what trades would you like to see the Tigers do? 🙂 This team would get bounced so fast in the first round. So since 95% of you want to keep Skubal, what would we need to do to make it worth keeping him? Because going into playoffs with this team is an early exit and wasting the value of trading Skubal, Mize, Torres and Flaherty...... So again, for the 4th time. What trades would you like to see the Tigers do if we were to go for it 🙂 You can be creative, throw things out there. Just curious. No need to flame people. (Again, I wouldn't do a single one of my trades but that's what I think it'd almost take to justify keeping Skubal.....) Quote

(Again, I wouldn't do a single one of my trades but that's what I think it'd almost take to justify keeping Skubal.....) The point where we disagree is that if we make the playoffs we are an early exit. With our pitching, especially only needing 3-4 starters in the playoffs, and our offense like it’s been every month but May, I think our chances of the ALCS/World Series are as high as any other team in the A.L. And with the pitching, anything can happen in a 7 game series, even against the Dodgers. The issue is getting to October with the hole they dug in May. 1 1 Quote
4hzglory Posted July 16 Posted July 16 And if the next 2 weeks get us have us within 2-3 games and 33%or higher playoff odds, I’m ok not making any trades. Whoever we acquire, at least $1 mil more in prorated salary needs to go. I did mention that I’d be ok with Hongbit’s proposal as long as enough salary went out to cover Miller’s remaining 2026 salary. We can’t lose the value of the draft picks if we are keeping Skubal/Mize. 1 Quote

I do think Clark is a fairly safe bet to provide considerable value getting on base, base running, and defense. In other words I think he has a fairly high floor at this point. The questions are how quick and will he be a star. Edited July 17 by 4hzglory 1 1 Quote
papalawrence Posted July 17 Posted July 17 I see Clark as being a solid contributor and Ranier having the better chance at becoming a star. His exit velo is crazy and several of his dingers have been oppo. Clark could become Corbin Caroll 2.0, but Caroll showed more in the minors. I just have a gut feeling about Ranier. But maybe that's the pecan brittle that I had after dinner. 1 Quote

It is not delusional to think the Tigers can win the World Series if they keep Skubal. They can. Will they? Probably not. Only one team out of thirty is going to win the World series, so no team has good odds. Even the Dodgers are not likely to win. Fangraphs has them at 27% probability for whatever that's worth. If they had the playoffs right now and the Tigers were in it, I think they would be as competitive as most teams due to their starting rotation. They need to get there first though. The next two weeks will determine whether it's worth going for it. They will need a hot streak during that period. 1 Quote
