It was posted somewheres around here within the last day or two. Flaherty to the IL allows for Montero to stay in the rotation for now. So take away Montero's worst 3 starts and then compare them. I guess my point of it being unfair to the team is that Hinch tells guys they have to keep winning so players dont get traded. If that's the case, Hinch owes it to the team to put the best possible team out there. And looking past Valdez's worse 3 starts just magnifies his inconsistency. Can he really ever be counted on? But, in all fairness, it's really nice having Montero in the bullpen. He comes in for quality multiple innings. So yeah, I guess either way, just having him on the staff is a win win situation. Quote
Tenacious D Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Montero has helped save this season, regardless of what advanced analytics say. He’s top 5 with Dingler, Mize, McGonigle and Greene. 2 Quote
1984Echoes Posted July 23 Posted July 23 The graphic on the screen says: Detroit, 47-54, 6.5 games back in the AL Central. Chicago, 57-44, 6.5 games back in the NL Central. Just interesting to see it like that... Quote

The player that was traded for ended up being the player to be named later. I thought it was Moreland, but it’s another player. I’ll offer 3,912 points (the points ain’t redeemable for diddly freaking pooh) to whomever comes up with the answer. I had to look up who the above player was involved between the Tigers and Cubs, which jogged my memory. He wasn't the first player essentially traded for themselves - long time forum members will definitely know the first player - Harry Chiti Quote

But I think any time Montero spends in the bullpen is to manage his total count of innings this season. I mean, letting Valdez claim "seniority" may be a part of it too... But I think they are counting Montero's innings... He pitched 133 last year and they probably don't want more than a 25% increase... He's at 115 so far this year so... managing 55 innings or so for the balance of the year? Just a guess... Quote

I"m sure Jobe will be eased back into the rotation/bullpen too. Quote

IdahoBert Posted July 23 Posted July 23 So Jansen only throws cutters… he has an interesting wind up. Quote

IdahoBert Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Even though there’s a four run lead, I think if Jansen takes 32 pitches to get out of the inning, he deserves a save. 1 Quote
