IdahoBert Posted July 29 Posted July 29 This could be the last time we see Tarik Skubal in a Tiger’s uniform. I’m not trying to be Debbie Downer, but it’s the truth. Quote

DTroppens Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) If they are thinking about trading him (apparently they aren't) they should never start him. Sorry, while I still want to see the Tigers make the playoffs and all that good stuff, it's time to ship Skubal and actually get some value for him. If they can make the playoffs without him, great. But this team isn't even close to .500. If they stick with Skubal, they better make the playoffs. Somewhere somehow, the bottom playoff teams will get hot and I bet everyone that makes the playoffs in the AL end up with at least 84 wins, maybe 83. That's going to take 32-22 or 33-21 for the Tigers to end up being one of those hot teams. Is it possible? I guess. But with this team's lack of a pen does anyone really see the Tigers going 32-22 the rest of the way? I hope they prove me wrong, but it's pretty unlikely. Edited July 29 by DTroppens 1 Quote

Since we need to go 33-21, if we could do that, we would, maybe, earn a wildcard spot. Less than that? We wouldn't deserve a spot. Can we do it? Keep using the same guys in the bullpen and I would say no. But using Jobe? And with the quality innings Madden is giving them? I think maybe they can but I would also like to see Montero back in the 'pen. That would mean we would need to keep both Mize and Skubal...and get Flaherty back, healthy and effective. But I'll tell you what, after the last 2 years, I wouldn't discount our chances. After all, it ain't over til it's over. 😆 Quote

He's gonna be traded and boomerang back in FA as Chris Illitch renames the stadium Tarik Skubal Bank Stadium. 1 Quote
Tenacious D Posted July 29 Posted July 29 As the big fish in this deadline, wouldn’t we expect a Skubal trade to go down to the wire? 2 Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted July 29 Posted July 29 I don’t understand playing Matt Vierling over Ben Malgeri at all. Vierling is completely DFA worthy now. I’d rather have Jung back up at this point. Quote

Potentially, but his trade could also be holding up other trades. Teams won't want to give their chips for say Freddy Peralta if they think they have a chance to get Skubal. For that reason, I would think if Skubal is traded, it will be by at least Sunday night so teams have Monday to pivot. Quote

It would be disappointing if Vierling is still getting significant AB's after the deadline, but Malgeri's time in Detroit is also likely limited. Quote

Agree. Once we acquire Fernando Tatis, Jr., Malgeri and Vierling can be jettisoned. 1 Quote

lordstanley Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Javy is a wily vet, was very cunning, tricked them into throwing ball away. 2-0 Tigers. Quote
IdahoBert Posted July 29 Posted July 29 Who is the old guy they’re interviewing who is far more interesting to talk to than to watch what’s going on on the field? Quote
IdahoBert Posted July 29 Posted July 29 The wind is blowing out pretty strong so I hope Tarik can keep the ball in the ballpark today. Quote
