I gather from my buddy who owns a shop in Boulder - but who grew up in our neighborhood - that Frankie used to take the piss out of foreign cycling journalists by telling them that he trained on the famous Mount Clemens to be as good as he is on hills.

He's the nicest guy in the world.  Now that our kids are grown there's no reason for us to see each other but they still live here.  The only time I've come across him recently is he'll sometimes do the announcing for local races and as I approach the finish line and he seems my name show up on their little computer thing he gives me a shout out and then I will go talk to him for a bit while he skips a bunch of other runners not having their name mentioned.   I will exchange messages with Betsy quite often on social media.  She's got opinions.  Strong ones.

I can't say I've ever met him but my buddy is a friend of his.  I am not a lycra person.
