So we now need  a 20-15 finish to be even at 81-81. That’s .571 ball. Will it be enough and can we do it ?

That seems like a stretch. At least there’s always cricket, lawn bowling, curling, and Australian rugby to take the sting off of it.

I’m not down on Scott Harris about any of this.

The fact that he didn’t go to Walmart and purchase some really good relievers nurtured in their hydroponic greenhouses doesn’t bother me. He wants to grow his own. Which to my understanding is a pretty good business option these days.

The bullpen was the most questionable part of this team going into the season - Vest may have been the player they could least afford to lose out of all the guys that have gone down.

Most Blown Saves in a season    37,  Nationals 2021

This year - Nationals  32,  Tigers 28.      The Nats have 33 saves,  the Tigers have 26.   So more BLOWN saves, than saves.

I think the league average is about 62%.   That's a 16-game swing?   Something like that.   They'd be easily in first.

But they keep going back to the same garbage instead of just TRYING something different.

Jansen just inspires no confidence at all.  He doesn't throw that hard and looks out of shape.  Even when he does well, I expect him to blow it.  He actually never threw hard but used have better control and more movement.

And replace them with 4A pitchers, improvement.

I feel like the only things that Finnegan and Jansen offer now are veteran closer experience which may have some importance if you're actually good, but does nothing when you are not.

What would you try?

The problem is that they are t just going to cut Jansen and/or Finnegan, so it’s moot.

IF roster spots open up, I’d be interested in seeing what Jake Miller could do and shifting Holton and Sommers into more high leverage spots.  I wouldn’t hate giving Mattison or Sears a look either since their K/9s are good.

Not that I expect that to be the solution but we need guys in the pen that can get some swing and miss and limit stupid walks and BBs.

If we go on another skid and fall back a bit in the standings over the next week or two, then we need to just bench Torres and McKinstry and play all the rookies the rest of the year.

But you have to be careful who you put on the 40.    You don't want to put a young guy on the 40 man roster only for them to sit out for half or most of a season........just to sneak in as a Wild Card and watching your bullpen piss away playoff games?  No thanks.

Come on let’s get excited. Maybe we could be perhaps the first sub .500 team to make it to the playoffs. What a great accomplishment whee. What are the betting odds on this possibility?

Nope, I don’t want to see any team make the playoffs with a losing record.

Right.  That’s why this won’t happen

He had $30M to spend on pitching, he could have gone to Saks.
