gehringer_2 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) I wonder if Harold should play 1st with his OF glove. He doesn't seem to handle that 1st baseman's trapper all that well. That's not the 1st time he's had a ball just sort of climb out the glove on him. Edited August 17, 2022 by gehringer_2 Quote
David Burton Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Another strong performance from E.Rodriguez forToledo tonight. Six innings, one run and 11 strikeouts. If he bounces back, if Skubal doesn’t need Tommy John surgery and if Turnbull recovers, the starting pitching should be much improved next year. A lot of if, but ... Now how about a couple of righthanded thumpers in the off-season. Austin Meadows should bounce back from injuries on the left side, and his brother may not be far away. Hope is eternal! 1 Quote
1984Echoes Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 By not being good enough. He did a lot of good things for the Org. But he didn't do good enough. He wasn't fast enough. He wasn't good enough in trading. He wasn't good enough in position prospect drafting (unless it was a top 5 1st round pick... although Parker may yet salvage that...) until he reduced Chadd's role in drafting which was, too little too late. He introduced analytics into the Org, but not enough, and not fast enough. I like the things that Avila DID do for the Org... but it wasn't enough, or fast enough, for anyone else. He was probably in over his head and remains a better #2 in the FO rather than a #1. In other words, not quite good enough. Quote
Jim Cowan Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Starting pitching has been quite acceptable for several days in a row. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Joe decides to compete for the Tiger Pumpkin award tonight. 1 Quote

Back in the day we called that 'Peter Principled,' - eventually promoted to his level of incompetence. Edited August 17, 2022 by gehringer_2 Quote

gehringer_2 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Naylor - no batting gloves. Throwback. Love it. 1 Quote
gehringer_2 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Soto only has one run to work now. Should put him on his best game right? Quote
mtutiger Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Almost time for Mr. Soto's Wild Ride lol Quote

Organizationally Avila didn't appear do anything wrong per se, he just didn't do enough of the things he was doing that were generally correct directionally. And since he was lousy at negotiating trades he couldn't make up any ground on that front. Quote
gehringer_2 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Soto's not giving up that Pumpkin award to Joe without a fight! Quote
Jim Cowan Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 And then they bunt him over to 3rd? I really hate that. Quote

mtutiger Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Great play by Barnhart there. Hit the showers, Tito Quote
Jim Cowan Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 And that's why that bunt was stupid, Greg deals out some 99s for a strikeout, and now with 2 out who cares whether the runner is at second or third? Quote
1984Echoes Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 I'd be ok with an Intentional on Kwan... i don't want a bat-control guy here, and would rather face Rosario with a play at 2B or 1B or other ways of getting the dude out... Quote
1984Echoes Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 (edited) But got Kwan out anyways... (or rather, instead...) Win. Edited August 17, 2022 by 1984Echoes Quote
mtutiger Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 What an ending... so much saltiness over what was clearly the correct call Quote
gehringer_2 Posted August 17, 2022 Posted August 17, 2022 Just now, mtutiger said: What an ending... so much saltiness over what was clearly the correct call yeah - they Clevelanders will feel a little silly in the clubhouse once they see the replays. Barnhart's glove or equipment or something must have made some noise that made them think the ball had hit the dirt despite that it clearly had not because they sure seemed convinced. Quote
