  1. Past hour
  2. When is that scheduled?
  3. absolutely - injuries can't be dealt with by any projection system - that's a given and I agree is it the biggest driver of inconsistent among top tier players. Things are also going to break down at end of careers because it's very difficult to know when a guy is going to age out - which can happen suddenly at almost any age over 30. So there will be plenty of noise on that side as well. But I'll make a counter argument about bad players being consistently bad - while I'm sure it is true in some cases, a player has to show something to get to the. Majors - he has to flash something beyond his mean over some period or he's more likely still in the minors, to I would suggest that aside from injury, there is a reasonable argument that the projection variance should be larger for bad players. That would be a fun thing to run down.
  4. Tork is going nowhere. There's no right handed 'power' anywhere in baseball and Tigers have nothing in the minors.
  5. Is this true? It's something I have thought about, but I don't think it's been tested. Most of the projection systems project to the mean, so my guess is that average players would be most accurately projected and extremely good or bad players would be less accurately projected. I also don't know that good players are more consistent than bad players as a bad player can be consistently bad. Another thing is that a good player can be inconsistent within a season if he has injuries and tries to play through them.
  6. He's too busy reading the waiver wire looking for a middle reliever or a utility infielder. He'll let Mize and Skubal walk...pure negligence.
  7. "But the numbers!" Every player's projection is based on what he did. The better a player is, the more likely he is to be consistent across all time scales, including from year to year - that's one of the things that makes a good player good. But the converse is also inevitably true, bad players tend to be inconsistent over all time scales, which is why they aren't better players, and thus will not project as accurately as good ones.
  8. Someone posted that Wemby with KAT on the floor has a net rating of -11.4. With KAT off the floor, Wemby has a net rating of +38.1.
  9. He needs to read a book on "How to Make Trades" ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜…
  10. The ability to truthfully assess your own roster is a huge skill for good execs...Malignant optimism is a thing. Every guy will repeat last year and we will bang our head against the wall doing the same thing until it's too late.
  11. Bummer. Scoob hit 99 with ok control and movement. Even the dinger wasn't a bad pitch. My hope bubble has deflated again. I'm more wanting Skubal to look good and bring some prospects.
  12. Tigers have scored 10 runs in 6 games vs Cleveland.
  13. you try to get the players to play the game you want to play, but once you have a roster, you can only play the game you have the players to play.
  14. Harris start thinking about how to maximize trade returns.
  15. On a positive side, Cleveland won't have Cade Smith tomorrow. The Tigers made him work very hard today....
  16. Most Maga wouldn't be able to define fascism or communism and will often use both to insult someone.
  17. On a Saturday afternoon game, 2 years ago, on the road, Matt Vietling had 2 hits. Ergo...today he'll get multiple hits. Right, AJ?
  18. Worst Tiger batter in June not named Jones.
  19. they seem to have a lot of trouble being competitive against good pitching. Of course it's good pitching, but if you are going to call yourselves good hitters you have to bear down and find ways to not make outs against them.
  20. Why, oh why, is Vierling batting 3rd? Some obscure stat?
  21. It's memes and tropes replacing deeper knowledge everywhere. Since Platner is a hot topic on everyone's mind - here is another one: "Platner is a Nazi" OK, Platner played around with some Nazi images but tell me, has he joined any facsict groups? Maine Paramilitaries? Does he advocate for racial purity? Is the trying to disenfranchise members of unfavored groups? Steven Miller wears silk suits may have skin as clear a babies butt, but he's a lot closer to a Nazi in what he actually *does* and advocates than there is any evidence Platner is. Platner may be stupidly insensitive and ignorant, a fake, and even unsuited for the job, but there doesn't seem to be shred of factual behavior (yet at least - I am always happy to qualify the arg) ) to label the guy a "Nazi" by action or advocacy in his campaign, but it's already conventional wisdom. It's also typical lazy political meme argument .
  22. After the last two years, I won't count anyone out. We just need to SCORE RUNS, you MORANS.
  23. Yeah itโ€™s really integrated into the game seamlessly
  24. I like the pitch challenges a LOT better than the other types of challenges. They get the ball/strike challenges right every time and it happens very quickly. In fact, they are so good, they should get rid of he challenge system altogether and go to an electronic stike zone on every pitch. On the other hand, other types of challenges take too long and they seem to not always be correct or at least not obvious.
  25. Too many black holes in the lineup. Release Jones and sit Vierling and Perez.
