If Larkin could not cut it in Detroit, I cannot imagine him cutting it in Canada, with the fishbowl of the Canada hockey press. These people are already out to get the members of team USA who are playing on Canadian teams. They would tear Larkin apart. I also can’t imagine that Stevie has any interest in sending him to the east, though you have to assume that if the deal is Lundell and 9OA, it would be considered. I also have a hard time thinking that Vegas wants Larkin as much as he wants them. I think it will come down to Minnesota with a third team involved, or one of the upstarts in the west. Like San Jose, Anaheim, or Utah.

The "enthusiastic" crowd at the basketball game was "mostly cheers".

Ugh ...yeah. True. Then the entire lineup went into a horrible slump. Something to address in the off-season? No, we spent millions of dollars on.....pitching. And surprise, surprise, our slump from last fall reared it's ugly head in May. But at least we have several prospects in the minors. 😆😄 A strong minor league system isnt just for feeding talent to the big league club. Many teams also use extra prospects in trades to bring in needed talent.

Speaking about the organizational arc, I don't think we are as close to peak Tigers as you might think we are, where the right guy makes all the difference. As for last season, we already had the best record in the league at the deadline, with a 106 team wRC+ and the fifth most runs in all of baseball, so pushing all our chips into the middle of the table to acquire a hitter just didn't make sense.
-
Not a top 30 prospect. Unsustainable. 390 BABIP. Lower OPS than Gage Workman and we all saw how his stats translated from AAA to MLB. Last but not least, he's not on the 40 man roster.
-
Larkin may not want to play in Canada and he probably wouldn’t like the Montreal microscope, but the Habs have a need and they have assets. Such as assets they had been willing to part with for Knies.
-
Seems like a perfect spot for Decker.
-
Building from within has been done by teams before but once close, bringing in the final pieces is sometimes necessary. The Tiger team was really close last season, a rental bat or two may have taken us over the top, we'll never know.
-
An absolutely awful GM is the one deciding.
- Today
-
Wallstedt, Stramel and Yurov would be an absolutely awful return for Larkin
-
you talk about him like he's not a team legend and he's just an ordinary, regular ol' nhl gm. if anything, he'd move upstairs.
-
I for one am glad we are not overpaying for established major leaguers with the top of our system. I'm on board with building the system into a contender until it is demonstrated—not claimed, but demonstrated—that it has failed.

Thats where trades come into play. A young bat who doesn't have a choice of where he plays. But yeah, thats easier said than done. But not even trying? Players are traded every off-season, it seems like some decent bats may have been available.
-
Yzerman won’t even have one more full season here if the only return for Larkin is a $8.7M cap hit.
-
Honestly, all I had to do was scan the home page and look at the headlines. In the attention economy, a content provider has to tell people exactly what they're getting while they're on the surface, because they'll lose the people if they dig into the details and it is not exactly what they thought it would be.
-
I don’t think they need a 3rd team. You may not like it but Wallstedt along with 2 recent 1st rounders in Stramel and Yurov would probably entice Stevie.
-
Were I Yzerman I would play hardball. Hey buddy, you're in year 4 of an 8 year contract, you don't want to go to Team X, enjoy your next 4 seasons around here. I get that Larkin has a No Movement Clause in his contract, but we're under no obligation to trade him. I want to trade him. I think we should trade him. But I'm not sending him to only where he wants to go for a crappy return. I'm making sure I get a deal that is equitable and mutually beneficial.

Or replace them with the human equivalent of 'all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.'

People talk about getting bats as if it’s as easy as just writing a check. If I were one of these guys and I had the choice of playing someplace where it was easier to hit home runs - for example - I would go somewhere other than Comerica. Maybe Tony Gwynn would like it here. If that’s an impact bat then sure. But when it comes to a guy like Bregman, for example, he didn’t want to play here for a variety of reasons, among which writing a check was apparently not one of them. Nick Castellanos, for all his deficits, ‘blossomed’ as a hitter when he played in ballparks better suited to his abilities. Yes, a guy like JD Martinez could hit here, but he can hit just about anywhere so he’s an outlier. Torres could hit 40 hr in the Bronx but not here. Anyway I think purchasing bats is a lot more problematic than we might think regardless of how well old man Ilitch and DD were able to do it.

Sadly there are misogynists on all parts of the political spectrum, from left to right to everything in between. Women are often told they can pick either being (insert political belief system here) or fighting for women's rights. Most end up fighting along with the others in the movement, and hope that they'll get a scrap or two for women's rights-only to find that these are the first things that those who told them to choose decide to 'compromise' on.
-
thinking big picture, minny should be calling everyone in the league trying to get a third team to make this work. if yzerman traded larkin to new jersey, quinn hughes is almost as good as gone. playing with his brothers AND his best bud? see ya.

Hard pass but I take your word for it and thank you for your service

Just a reminder that at last year's trade deadline, the Tigers had the best record in the American League and a nine game lead on the second-place Guardians. So I don't fault Harris for not selling off the top of the farm system in exchange for a couple established veterans in a desperate attempt to get us over the line and into the playoffs. We looked very much in control of our destiny at the time. Liquidating the best of our farm system to go for broke simply did not strike anyone as being necessary because it looked like the help we need was on the margins.
