  1. I’ll go back to my previous post: Archie, and other people that continue to spout the lies about the validity of the 2020 election have no honor. They are liars, and do not believe in the US constitution or the rule of law. They are anti-American by default. They deserve nothing but contempt.

  2. Yep. The goal is to end democracy. Elections won’t matter. Don’t like the result? Well some no name county election commissioner can just not confirm. A rebel Secretary of State not confirm. State legislatures not validate. A Governor. They are setting things up to create chaos when none existed. Just overwhelm with anecdotes and rumors and half cocked theories and then say “people lost trust”. They lost trust because 1/3 of our population are brain dead and believe anything a guy on TV tells them. We are a nation of Alex Jones.

  3. what did people think biden was going to be? he's been fine. made the important call on afghanistan. inflation isnt his fault and they're trying - finally - to do something about infrastructure. he has to craft legislation that can get passed by sinema and manchin in the senate while trying to make the left wing of the democratic house happy. that's a tall order. and heck, the economy is doing well right now all things considered. they've got another year to get anything done before they get waxed in the midterms.

  4. I'm speaking generally here, MC - from this perspective (i.e.having voted 13 times for president) it gets hard not to get tired with people who get all down and dumpy when the Pres doesn't turn out to be Jed Bartlett or Elivs Presley. When the republic is reeling and fundamental institutions are dying from lack of maintenance, we damn well better be able to get excited over a guy that has some kind of loyalty to principles and institutions and shelve the concerns about how much fanboy joy the Pres gives some cohort. The generation of kids that grew up with helicopter parents don't want to find out the hard way that they weren't done any favors by being led to believe someone else is going swoop in and take care of all the stuff for them that isn't entertaining enough to be fun.

  5. Labor shortage is a huge problem, but I think the reason for the shortage is more complicated than what you are suggesting. Even states that didn't give the unemployment boost have shortages. I think Covid convinced a lot of low payed employees that kept working during Covid that they weren't appreciated, so they are looking for better jobs. It also made people in the service industry not want to come back until they believe Covid is under control. Then there are older people with a lot of money saved who decided to quit because they saw how unstressful it was not having to work.

  7. The lasting image of the 2020 election for me is the sight of a bunch of rednecks from outstate Michigan at Cobo trying to bust into the room demanding they stop counting the votes of black people. It’s 2021. Not 1950 Alabama or 1860 America.

  9. It's more than the worker side however. Unlike say Germany, in the last 70 yrs the US has pretty much gotten out of the business of doing public vocational training. We have relied on industry to do their own, and for a long time that worked. But in the quest for ultimate ROI, American business has decided it's easier to steal skilled tradesmen from each other than spend the money to train them themselves - only to see them stolen by someone else. Net result is US trains a lot few tradesmen than it once did, thus perennial shortages. Of course the loss of defined benefit pension plans has also contributed to skilled workers' increasing willingness to move around as well. A lot of this kind of thing could be addressed if we had a politics that worked - we could do vocational ed again, incentives are out their make a company investment in workers lower risk. These are mostly not particularly partisan issues if properly framed. But there is usually at least on special interest that opposes whatever needs to be done. As long as the system is controlled by those willing to spend the most to protect the status quo on a political issue, we will continue to be unable to solve even simple problems.

  10. I am really not a believer in Casey so I guess the one good thing that could come out of this season is him getting fired.

  11. Not just that, but just the pretending thr problem doesn't exist in general.... it comes across as out of touch. Not so much elected politicians on this front, but people on the left on social media and such. In terms of how long it goes on, it's not just gonna magically go away, the increases in CPI will taper month by month over time... from what I've read, getting down to 4% or less by Q2 next year would be a win at this point

  12. In 2020, I think a big reason Biden won was because he was able to consolidate the left and the center around him. I know we have Trumpers here talking about how much "the left" loves Biden. But as some IDK actually ON "the left", and not someone making elitist outsider assessments of "the left" - I'm not sure he's going to have them as consolidated as he did for 2020. I think it's both b/c of Trump not being president and b/c Biden has disappointed "the left" by thus far not keeping some promises they care about a lot. I also think there's a pretty good change he might be losing moderates to the GOP as well. But I do think that will be heavily impacted by Trump being on the ticket.

  14. All, true. Long story short: I didn't say there weren't reasons for a tournament, only that a larger tournament would do less to determine which of the consensus elite teams was the best. That was supposedly the original motivation for instituting the current championship playoff. It was just too terrible to have to contemplate the possibility of two different schools finishing at the top of the two polls. Mich/Neb must never happen again! Now of course that is only one reason for a playoff. Whether it's best one or the only one is in the eye of the beholder.... A 12 team tournament may have any number of virtues, but resolving the old split poll situation to pick "the best" team from the one or two that rose to the top during the season isn't one of them.

  15. My wife and I get into arguments over mouthwash. I like that 92 octane shit. I know if works. I don’t want cool mint this or that. I don’t want flavor. I want my mouth to burn because I know it’s doing something. Same with soap. I don’t need soap that makes my hand smell like French vanilla pudding. Give me lava.
