Our forebearers founded a country with liberty? Seriously? We still have work to do, but we have way more liberty now than we did back then. Blacks were treated like animals for most of our nations history and women were just an afterthought. But you feel oppressed now because you are asked to wear a mask when you shop during a pandemic? People are calling for your banning because you keep posting lies from fraud web sites run by grifters. We have pointed out the lies repeatedly, but you don't want to have a conversation. You just whine about being oppressed because we don't believe your bullshit. There are several conservative people here like ewsieg, tigeraholic and 1776 who people don't call to be banned. We disagree on a lot of things, but we can at least have a conversation without a bombarment of BS from conspiracy theory SPAM sites. We have even had a devout libertarian (Deleterious) who was one of the most well liked people on the site. Thus, I conclude that you are the problem for being a poor poster.

Instead of typing real slow, you should read more carefully. The CDC table does not say ages 5-12 have a 65.6% rate. It says that everybody 5 and over has a 65.6% rate. Big difference, yes? So, it is only logical that for the total population the rate is lower, such as 62%. You have a chance to admit that you misread the data here, it would help establish some credibility. So, Americans die from Covid at a rate more than 3 times that Canadians do. I feel certain that you have a theory about why that is. Why won't you tell us? What would be the harm?

I think it's great that smoking is banned in public and private places. Smoking is very annoying and second hand smoke is dangerous to my health. Your right to smoke does not supersede my right to clean air. I think you are being deliberately dense as a right wing deflection, but I am saying that people who get AIDS tend to be sexually promiscuous. Gays that practice safe sex don't get AIDS and are no threat to your health. As a libertarian, you should have no problem with their lifestyle.

Not to get all Christmasy at this inopportune time, but the very interesting podcast "The Rest is History" which is two brit history profs going all in depthy on various history topics did a recent one about the Dickensian London of "A Christmas Carol" which was very interesting. Lots of discussion of the politics of Dickens. Which were very Thatcher/H.W. Bush/Peggy Noonan-y. Instead of raising everyone out of poverty, the upper middle class should get everyone a turkey at Christmas. Good behavior by the people who have is the solution to suffering. I can see how that would have appealed broadly to a large British and American middle class who could buy magazines for serialized novels.

I have seen a couple of commercials based on A Christmas Carol that seem totally screwed (scrooged?) up. The Mercedes Benz one shows the past and present as dirty and filled with suffering -okay. But the future has “him” getting into a luxurious MB and then the camera takes us out into the bright sunny open road. Leave the Cratchet family behind - no Christmas feast for them, maybe some exhaust fumes lingering in the air instead. Scrooge, or any wealthy person can and should wrap themselves in a hundred grand of leather and steel and floor it. Leave reality behind, no lessons learned, no compassion for others, no awareness.
