  1. I just did the same. And I just took a test because I want to make sure that the generally crappy way I’m feeling is mostly just post-op, and not this damn virus on top of it…. Results in 10 more minutes (but I’m thinking it’s negative) Edit to add: negative

  2. You kind of made the point I was trying to make...In a nutshell, Roe vs Wade, legalized abortion basically without restrictions in the first trimester...banned them in the third trimester with the exception of the mother's or fetus being in a life threatening situation...the second trimester was more open to restrictions. So OF COURSE everyone is against third trimester abortions, because they don't happen. The Archie Deflector nuts have their cult believing there are tens of thousands of women 9 months pregnant lined up at abortion clinics waiting to abort their pregnancy. The reality is much different. Even for women whose lives are in danger face a nearly impossible task to try and end their pregnancy. It's outrageously expensive (10k or more) and requires an out of state trip and there are literally only a couple of physicians in the entire country who will risk their lives to perform them. Ireland legalized abortion after ONE woman in her second trimester died after doctors refused to induce labor when her fetus had already died. Late Term/partial birth abortions, CRT, open borders, etc...all non existent dog whistles that make the sheep salivate.

  4. Murder is murder. Who cares if it is a hate crime? Unless the sole purpose is to trigger the FBI to investigate some kind of organized activity, I don't get why a big deal is made over whether it is a hate crime or not.

  5. What a great game to be at. The outing by the kid, the two bombs, the catwalk homer (!), walking the tightrope and still getting the win. What a thrilling game. Fast, too! They should all be like that. 😏

  7. Fair enough, but laws are often based on medical facts...at least they used to be...That there are lawmakers actually attempting to criminalize ectopic pregnancies is so beyond preposterous, it's hard to even wrap my brain around. In the past, it wasn't even considered not to have exceptions for rape and incest or to save the life of the mother, not that's a common talking point. There aren't numbers or facts that will pacify the Archie Deflectors. They really don't even know what they're against or why, don't care if people die or if lives are destroyed, but it owns the libs.

  9. To any of you trotting out the good guy with a gun saving people theory, please find me some statistics to show me that more crimes are prevented by good guys with guns than committed by bad guys with guns.

  10. Next year at this time, we'll have a whole new set of pitching situations that we didn't anticipate.

  13. Lolich finished in the top 10 in FIP 5 times. What he did in 1971, 1972 was extraordinary though - pitching 375 and 327 innings and still finishing in the top ten in ERA+. That was like something out of the deadball era. He finished in the top three in Cy Young voting both yrears.

  14. He had a bad week and Mayo was a manager in a hurry? I do see some significance to the fact that two of the losses were to the offense that won 109 the next season. Mayo jerked guys around all the time - did he ever use the same batting order twice in a row? Just looking at the game logs over that two weeks it's honestly hard to figure what Mayo was doing. Fred Lasher was out, so the BP would have been short. The starts Mickey didn't make were given to Pat Dobson(2), Darryl Patterson and Hiller took one - so that wasn't saving the pen really. OTOH, Mickey worked 5 and 5.2 innings in his last two relief appearances with no runs so he was already in split start - stretch out mode. But then Mayo skipped him for a full week before his next start (Aug 22) so who knows what was going on? Maybe he was ready to start again and got a virus or something. They did add Don MacMahon on July 28 which adds some evidence they needed more BP arms. If they wanted to see what Patterson (rookie?) or Dobson could do as a starter your couldn't send Sparma to the pen, his control was erratic, Wilson was a senior guy (and a good hitter), you weren't going to move McLain! In any case, I don't know how often Mickey was higher or lower in FIP than 19th, but for him, his '68 FIP was pretty normal. I mean, there is a reason he's not in the HOF despite retiring with the most K's for a LHP. He usually was not *that* dominant, he was just very good. His real talent came later in the number of innings he would give you, that saved you as a team from having to use somebody worse for those innings. That did have great value but there is no prize or award for that.

  16. Well, I'm sure that is the case with some issues, but it's not the case with all. We treat our pets more humanely at end of life than we do our own grandparents, but that's just my opinion. Additionally, it's tough to say 'medical fact'. What is true today in medicine, doesn't mean it's true tomorrow. Most people do not support abortions through the third trimester. My opinion on that is most start to look at the baby bump on a mom as a baby, not a fetus, at that point. Add in the fact that fetus' can survive without their mother as early as late 2nd trimester and it adds to the argument that they are separate human beings at that point. My sister was the smallest baby to survive in Michigan at the time she was born, now babies born 2-3 weeks earlier than her still have over a 50% chance of survival. Still though, your point you're making on the opposition is spot on, there is no change for a legitimate debate with folks that are extreme. In the end, I'm with Bill Clinton, I want abortions to be safe, legal, and rare.

  17. and to come back mechanics of team construction, I have long believed that the marginal market/value of hitters is a much worse value proposition than for pitchers. Or better put, I think you are more likely to win (i.e. get to the playoffs) with the best pitching and only 'good' hitters than with the best hitters and only 'good' pitching. Which is to say I like the Atlanta model.

  18. That's not exactly right. He showed mid 90s fastball and had a dominant run in the CWS. His first year was not good, he was overweight, didn't have the sharp slider or velocity on his fastball.
