  1. I think they mentioned that the assistant who will be taking over at Duquesne also coached James at SVSM. Dambrot went on to U of Akron after SVSM. I don't recall the story of why he went to Duquense.
  2. Kind of hoping Long Beach State gets to next weekend because that'd be fun to see them win a few more games under a fired head coach. Lebron James' high school coach Keith Dambrot is at Duquense. They won their tourney which was their only path to this tourney. He is retiring after this season. His wife is battling cancer. This is their first NCAA tourney since 1977. I'd like to see them get far. I think those are the two storylines I like the most. Or, I guess, those are the two that I like the most that I can think of right now.
  3. I don’t think that’s a conspiracy theory.
  4. Well, the problem there is that the sensible part of the population might be dealing in percentage of the total population.
  5. So the younger players are looking for leadership from the guy the handled the MILB CBA? Perhaps MLB was going to contract MILB jobs anyway, but it is in an interesting wrinkle that the person that orchestrated a deal that removed jobs is thought of that highly. And maybe that statement is unfair because, again, MLB might have been on the road to removing those jobs anyway. Plus, the CBA did improve the conditions for the remaining jobs, and that certainly cannot be ignored.
  6. Yes. Besides the ERA, just look at his BB9 and SO9 with Detroit vs with Philadelphia. I think the no hitter might just be a coincidence in terms of how his arm might have reached his workload capacity. Throwing 124 pitches in a game that late in that season given the season leading up to it wasn’t optimal at all, no question. But he was probably teetering on the line of diminishing returns for the rest of the season around then anyway. Even if he hadn’t pitched the no hitter, if they’d have pulled him after 90 or 100 in that start, he was probably looking at a tired arm before the season ended. I don’t want to bag on Lorenzen. He pitched well for the Tigers. As I said before, both sides benefited from the other, and that’s good to see. It’s tough to rerack the off-season, but if the Tigers knew he’d have been available for $4.5M, I’d have been interested in a return. The risk is that his arm might be a bit of a concern this season after last season. And given some of the roster decisions that the Tigers have coming up with the pitching staff, it’s tough to see where he’d fit in now.
  7. Now that I think about it, I don’t think I’ve been there since before the pandemic.
  8. It’s a long season. Hopefully he’s up to task.
  9. I wonder how the stadium in Vegas is coming along.
  10. But would the same act play well now?
  11. This organization is just so unbelievably dreadful.
  12. Paws gets suspended for performance enhancing drugs.
  13. I think Lorenzen probably hit a wall late in the season. He hadn't logged that kind of workload in his career. He ended up at 150 innings and had pitched over 100 only once, his rookie season in 2015. So I think that factors into his specific situation. The Tigers did well to trade Lorenzen before the season got too long for Lorenzen. Lorenzen did well to establish himself as a starter while in Detroit. Both sides were able to parlay that into a trade to a contender for a prospect. I think that both would agree it was a win-win at the time. Its just unfortunate that Lorenzen cam back to earth later in the season, but again, the unchartered waters might have been a main culprit to that. Gregory Soto is the pitcher that sticks out to me as having success after leaving the Tigers that might give me pause to before canonizing Fetter for sainthood. But there are exceptions to every rule, and Soto very well may be an example of that. We'll see how the imported Tiger pitchers perform this season. Flaherty is going to an intriguing follow this season. Can Chafin bounce back? How about guys like Miller and Maeda, can they deliver a favorable return on investment and maybe deliver a spike season or two? So, I don't know, I think there's something to the "come to Detroit and improve". But there are still going to be some limits as far as what those improvements can be.
  14. I wonder how Bruno Mars is with translating.
  15. I get signed by the Tigers to replace Javy Baez at SS.
  16. The Ballys broadcast mentioned a 2 1/2 hour bus trip one way for this game. Not sure if reporting or departing time was 7:30am. This lineup reflects that.
  17. While we're talking defense, Rogers had himself a first inning. Pounced on a dribbler along the 3rd base line, twirled and tossed a seed to Torkelson's chest. Fluidly framed a 3rd strike for another out. Gunned down Merrifield at 2nd on a delayed steal after a chesting a bounced pitch off of the corner of the plate. Hinch was interviewed in the next inning and said that wasn't even the best part of it. He was more impressed with Rogers' pitch calling early on.
  18. The draft capital and the walk rate.
  19. Seth Towns is a senior's senior on Howard.
  20. How about that dive, catch, and throw right on a dime to 1B? The TV guys were saying it probably gets challenged in the regular season, and that's probably true. But he threw it in a spot that Torkelson didn't even have to scoop from.
  21. Thank goodness they're only a successful rebuild away from promoting into a rebuilding team.
  22. So you're saying I didn't miss much by not watching this game?
  23. Oh, yeah, you're right about that. I wonder what game I was thinking of? Maybe it was Penny in relief I was thinking of? That game was a 15-5 series ending loss to Texas. Good grief, what a way to bow out. Scherzer and Verlander got clobbered.
  24. I was told there would be no math.
