  1. And this is always a variable. The different eras which includes rules, game styles, roster construction, etc.
  2. Sheed would lose his man on an end of game in bounds and that would be the series.
  3. My guess is that the Tigers felt Malloy’s issues at 3B weren’t conducive to an experiment at 1B. It’d have been nice to see a trial in Toledo. Or maybe it wouldn’t have. But along those defensive lines, I wonder if the decision to swap players was made slightly before/during the trip to Boston, but that just ain’t the place to debut Malloy as a possible defender. Hopefully Malloy’s bat proves worthy of staying and Torkleson can get his game together quickly for a speedy return.
  4. Nice work. You‘ll fit in well here.
  5. Indeed. As for Mize this season, he’s still coming back from major surgery. I kind of expected a bit of an up and down season. And we still don’t know how the stamina over the course of a season will factor in, I suspect Torkelson was misused early on. When he was promoted, he started the season hitting 7th. If a rookie 1B can only crack 7th in the lineup in any of the Tiger lineups from recent seasons, that kind of seems like a bit of a red flag right there. It ain’t like they’ve been chock full of hitting.
  6. Hey, if you guys want to prove me wrong, feel free to bring the numbers. But Canha’s GIDP% of less than 7% is below league average of about 10%. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/c/canhama01-bat.shtml
  7. A question often asked but never answered.
  8. According to baseball reference, Canha had grounded into only 3 double plays so far this season. But go ahead, please prove to everyone that your season long fetish about hm grounding into more double plays than anyone else is more than your false narrative.
  9. Isn’t this the second game of the series that Torkelson has been benched? Final warning shot before a demotion?
  10. Wow….. ok.
  11. Do we have to start announcing our absences? I’ll miss this game to go watch a wife’s cousin performing in Spamalot.
  12. Nice area.
  13. Win today and split this series.
  14. I think the separation of football conferencing from all other conferencing is a matter of when and not it. But I would guess its not going to be as clean and tidy as bringing the old conferences back to what they were. In other words, a revamped PAC10/12 might not be a reunion of all of the 10 or 12 teams that we remember.
  15. The "completing rehab" was definitely odd. It could be an extremely minor case. He last played May 26. I guess I don't see how diagnosis, adequate rest, reevaluation, and completing rehab would be wrapped up in less than a week.
  16. LaVine has 2 more seasons an a player option for $43M, $46M, and $49M. His past few seasons he has been above league average shooting percentage at 16 feet and beyond.
  17. I didn't think this was a career threatening deal. But at the same time, it sounds like something that is going to take a good amount of time to heal, something that could indeed require months rather than weeks.
  18. I’m not sure he could hit a voodoo doll correctly this season.
  19. Yes, @Edman brought up Hiura's contract elsewhere. I mentioned Meadows somewhere in that discussion (I think), but forgot about him in this scenario. He's got a good line in AAA right now, much better than Hiura. I guess another way to look at it is this: Greene and Perez have earned everyday status in the OF. Vierling has earned himself everyday work. Keith is probably everyday and Baez is going to play everyday on the IF. Ibanez is on the roster. The Cs are the Cs and kind of not a part of this. Urshela, McKinstry, and Baddoo are on the roster. What happens with Torkelson? That's probably the biggest domino after whatever is decided upon Canha's hip. And now that I think about Ibanez, he also has some experience at 1B. So, I had forgotten about that before, but it factors into the depth chart decisions.
  20. I want to be optimistic even though I don't know much about Langdon. But the problem is that I've seen enough with Gores to tamper that optimism way down.
  21. In his defense, he, along with the rest of the bullpen, had a good April followed by a bad May. Was there late movement on his pitches earlier in the season that isn't there now? SO9 still remain career highs, but that BABIP and SLG escalated something ridiculous. Here's another thing. 1 of 12 baserunners allowed in April scored. That's ballooned up to 15 of 25. Some of that is self inflicted with the increased SLG, but some of that could also fall back on the bullpen as a whole.
  22. I missed the game. Reading up, it sounds like this was a pregame lineup adjustment. Hinch mentioned seeing how things were today, so hopefully it was just a one off. I don't recall anything from Thursday's game, but who knows. Taking Carpenter and Canha out is too much for this lineup to bear. If the Tigers really wanted to evaluate young talent, I would think there is an opening for Malloy now. Carpenter's injury sounds ripe for a 60 day IL stint, so that would create an opening on the 40 for Malloy. I'm going with the assumption they're at 40, but I don't know that for sure. A Canha injury would also likely eliminate any thoughts of demoting Torkelson, if there were any of those thoughts to begin with. Urhsela played 1B last night, Vierling has some limited experience there, too. I get Torkelson has disappointed so far this season, but I'm not sure a Vierling/Urshela time share at 1B is what they'll opt for, particularly since they are much better gloves elsewhere.
  23. I think we can all agree I'm an idiot. But I'm thinking the words "spinal fracture" and "baseball swing" don't do well together. I think Baddoo can unpack his bags for a while. Hopefully his new mechanics yield well in the next few months. I don't know how the front office perceives his future beyond this season, but he's going to have the opportunity to show his wares for 29 other teams.
