Is this possible?
-
Buddha has it 100% right, but don't tell him that. But then going back to the point of what exactly is the criteria. That's tough for some teams like Nebraska that have taken it on the chin lately because we also see them on the other side of the spectrum in the current moment.

I think Edman predicted the extra option year for Faedo. Or maybe just called out the possibility.

You could probably lump Mann in with those other IFs and they've all got their pros and cons. The options that you mention are beneficial. I would think Lipcius and possibly Kreidler aren't necessarily locks to make it through the offseason on the 40 if the Tigers need those spots. Certainly Nevin has the hotter seat before them.

What's your top 10?

I'm going to guess they'll draft 2B/3B Devin Mann if available. He's a RHH 27 year old (Opening Day) with very good on base skills and some pop in his bat. If he were to make the Opening Day roster, this would allow for Vierling to play CF vs LHPs and/or when Meadows needs a day off. This also buys time for Jung to play more 3B in the minors until he is ready and is a contingency in case Keith isn't ready for 2B to start the season.

Gotcha, my bad.

I guess this is one way to legitimize the fake legitimacy of the in season tournament. Create some controversy.

But is that what this should be? What if MLB tapped the Blue Jays on the shoulder and informed them, sorry, the Yankees might have finished 7 games behind you, but we're going to need those TV ratings?

If I had a nickel for every time that happened to me....

That's certainly a part of the calculus.

I don't know if this had been mentioned before, but now with going down to 4 "power" conferences in the short term, there's a way to line up each of those championship games without stepping on each other's toes. Friday night prime time, Saturday noon, Saturday mid day, and Saturday prime time. The problem is getting the conferences to allow themselves to line up into the time slots that make sense geographically. The ACC, Big Ten, and Big XII have teams in the Mountain and Pacific time zones. I suppose you could look at the two with Pacific time zone teams and it stands to reason to that would want the later slots. It might be reasonable for the Big Ten with their west coast teams. The ACC has Cal and Stanford, so maybe time constraints aren't as much of a reasonable concern for them. The Big XII has a few Mountain teams, although are they really championship fodder? Maybe the fall in between the Big Ten and ACC as far as needing that prime time slot, but if the championship game starts at 1pm EDT, those Mountain teams are on an 11am "body clock". So maybe that isn't that bad. Then there is the SEC. Will they budge off of 4pm? They're geographically the best fit for an early game, but they're also not going to do whatever doesn't benefit the SEC the most. And who is going to want to take the Friday prime time game? Will there be apprehension given that it was the PAC-12's slot, and, well, there's no PAC-12 to speak of anymore?

Draft them both. Teach them both to pitch left handed and hit right handed.

Of course it’s about TV ratings and not stepping on the SEC’s toes, in some order.

It’ll be one of three things: RHH CF 3B with the versatility to move around the diamond LH RP

The: "Can we not do this anymore?" 2024 MLB Draft
casimir replied to 1984Echoes's topic in Detroit Tigers
It seems incredible that for all of the awful years that Cleveland had since the draft’s inception that this is the first time they have the number 1 overall pick. Even when considering the alternate year rule, that’s amazing to me. -
Severino maybe?
-
Yes. I think it goes $14M in the first year and $12M in the second.

What happens at Jim Cowan's house stays at Jim Cowan's house.

Me doing zero to help decorate the Christmas tree (nothing) results in an unhappy wife (something). Does that count?

I don't know, I think No-Land means he's not a runner.

And removed from the Astros during the best stretch in their history.

They have a QB recruit named Air Noland. Let me repeat, a QB named Air. That's a good thing, right?

Are we going to see fewer NFL draft hopefuls sitting out playoff games than we would if those teams were only participating in non playoff bowl games? That's probably more of a fortunate byproduct rather than an engineered outcome. Are we going to see a similar effect with players entering the transfer portal?
