Nothing will happen until they are directly involved. And even they are directly involved (Janaury 6), they'll still drag their feet to do anything worthwhile. The best anyone can hope for is to be lucky enough to never be involved in one of these situations. That's all we have in defense of mass shootings. Hope and luck.

This smug MF should have been bowling in Maine the other night.

What would you change?

I question how successful this team can be with him in charge. Maybe I shouldn't, maybe he's learned from his days of trying to be Drummond's pal and boss with too much emphasis on pal. -
That's interesting idea, moving Baez to the Padres. But I wouldn't move Skubal in this kind of deal.
-
Why have the acquired more IFs than are on the IF? Why have they spent into oblivion and gotten not much out of it? It ain't exactly a well run organization. I get what you mean, and if they're going to move salary, they probably need to look at Machado/Boegarts/Tatis. But if they can't, they may need to look to move other smaller contracts to accomplish it.

Everything is relative to the deal that's made. I wouldn't want to give up too much for only one guaranteed season. Absorb Carpenter's contract and get Kim with that for a run of the mill RP in the minors, that's fine. That deal probably isn't there. I'm good with moving one of Jung/Keith. I think they should gauge trade interest to be honest. They seem somewhat duplicative. Promising looking lefty bat that fits adequately at one of 2B/3B, but not quite solidly. That's a bit generic, but it sounds like that's about what the Tigers have there. So, how can they leverage that surplus to address a need?

That's kind of what I was thinking. Either that, or just be mindful of splitting up a pairing of Hayes & Stewart on the floor too much. Thompson's offense isn't there now. But I want him out there as much as possible to pair with Cunningham for development purposes and as that constant defensive threat on/from the wing. Let that defensive havoc result in an extra break or two per game. It might not seem like much directly, but if it unsettles the opposition enough throughout the game, that'll be helpful as well. Like you said, fun game where they looked competitive. I'm not sure what happened with that last play, I think Kelser brought up the fact that any player going away from the basket is not ideal for a final shot attempt, which makes sense. But the fact that there was a final play against a team like Miami is encouraging. -
This. Beam us up the ALC standings, Scotty. There is no outstanding competition here.

So, the Urban Meyer flavor of amnesia?
-
Yes. No. I think that's too long term of a salary to entertain. I think it is less onerous than Cabrera's in terms of dollar value (inflationary), in terms of its end vs player age, and in terms of defensive spectrum & player physicality and the aging progression. I know others have mentioned Soto, but I think the request will be too high to engage given his current contract status. I had thought Kim would be the guy to go after. He addresses a need on the IF and OBP. I'm not sure what his 2025 mutual option is. My guess is that he ends up a FA after 2024.

Gonna be weird seeing Madison Bumgarner at the Arizona ring ceremony, isn't it?

So you’d have no problem with any of Michigan’s opponents doing the same thing in return? Even though it’s apparently against the rules? Doesn’t it seem odd that the U of Morality was quick to suspend the spy once the story got out? That’s not Harbaugh’s nature to cave in so easily like that, is it?
-
It seems like adding some sort of communication device to helmets might alleviate some of this problem, wouldn’t it?
-
The truckings have been impressive.

There’s also the trade route.

No, dude, I had a teal shirt on that day.

That's a bunk bed with little brother.

It is curious why Michigan is being called out for this. Is their practice of "research" of the opponents' play signage that much more egregious than everyone else? Are they beyond the line, banging trash cans so to speak?
-
But I thought Michigan was holier than thou and didn't resort to such shenanigans that the commoner/peasant institutions do?

It seems like this would be a good season to expand from 4 to 12.

Arizona was 52-110 in 2021, 74-88 in 2022, and 84-78 this season. Texas was 60-102 in 2021, 68-94 in 2022, and 90-72 this season. Cabrera is off of the books and Baez will be the only significant salary around. There are a few emerging younger players. The pitching side seems to be a continuing positive if the can keep healthy. Do it, Scotty. Put a playoff roster together this offseason.
