  1. Just kind of thinking through the rotation a bit, of the 1,400 or so innings to be pitched, what is needed by the rotation, 60%? 840 IP? 175 out of the first two spots, 150 out of the last three? That’s 800 there. 60% of a start is 16.2 outs, so it gets a team through 5 plus an out. I don’t know, maybe the 60% is a bit low. But then that means they need another upper end SP.
  2. I wouldn’t think that’s a solidified 38. There are some guys that can be jettisoned pretty easily (Nevin as a prime example).
  3. You shouldn’t assume to know what is going through Meadows’ mind. Yet here we are.
  4. Oh, ok. Guess we’ll see tomorrow.
  5. Seconded. I’m not interested in the lack of control issues.
  6. I remember George Irvine going with 6 guys for a couple of games due to locker room issues. Heck, I think they might have even been back to back games. I hope they aren’t close to that.
  7. I can see a rationale for it given the other choices. And I think this is a good example of why they need more pitching, preferably an upper rotation pitcher. Don’t get me wrong, I like him and his potential. I just think another very good 175 IP is needed.
  8. I would think Gipson-Long is easy to stash in Toledo. He had a handful of starts and looked decent, but I don’t think he’s a guy that they have to have in the rotation right now. I think Olson has earned a penciled in spot right now. If he doesn’t look good in camp, he can be sent down if needed.
  9. That’s one way to handle it. By the time the inevitable injury pops up, he might be ready for a rotation spot.
  10. Maybe I'm looking too much into it, but he's a former 2nd round pick that turns 25 in February. He has some on base chops about him and some versatility. The former is a tenant of the organization. The latter is a helpful asset. Its not earth shattering by any means, but if you're going to look to fill your minor league rosters, might as well do so with the type of player that have some of the skill sets you are looking for.
  11. By quarter, it was -8, -4, -7, and -7. At least the consistency is there.
  12. I thought it was a refurbish?
  13. They have to let things play out to see what they have. Part of the early season issues are the new coaching staff and probably too much youth / inexperience on the floor. As far as Cunningham is concerned, there's plenty of time between now and then to decide. He needs to stay healthy and play, its that simple.
  14. Filling out the Mud Hens’ roster already?
  15. Gotta laugh to keep from crying.
  16. I think he might be the better option. He won't cost as much in dollars or years. So the risk is lowered. And with the reduced salary from Imanaga vs Yamamoto, they can take that opportunity cost and apply it to other needs.
  17. Talk about a clash of the titans....
  18. He's 35. He did have some injuries. But he's not a below average starter. 2 of out 3 ain't bad.
  19. I would hope no blood would be shed. Just a little ink on paper, that seems sufficient.
  20. Yeah, I suppose just salary along it could very well be that. But the true cost of acquisition includes posting fees. Whether that is paid up front or annually during the life of the contract, and how that factors in as AAV for the luxury tax (or whatever MLB calls it these days), I don't know.
  21. This is beyond comprehension.
  22. Congratulations to the 2023 American League Central Division champion Minnesota Twins.
  23. Or possibly Imanaga. Either would be a welcome addition to the rotation and allow a bit more leverage for a trade move out an arm for a bat. But your core and payroll suggestion is spot on. I think I read somewhere that 2024 player salary with Maeda is $83M or $84M next season, so about what you thought with $80M. I've seen suggestions of 9/$225M for Yamamoto and 5/$85M for Imanaga, both of those not including posting fees. I don't really know what those amount to, if they are paid upfront or during the life of the contract (my guess would be the former). So one of those two keeps them below $125M for next season. They were at $120M last season.
  24. Could be, if the Tigers suddenly find themselves flush with SP. But they have to get to that point, first.
  25. I guess it depends upon how one looks at it. The one loss teams had a shot, they just happened to lose a game along the way. It will be interesting to see what happens if Alabama, who should be a two loss team, two loss Louisville, and three loss Oklahoma State win their conference championships. It would likely be Michigan, PAC 12 champion, Alabama, and,…. Georgia?
