Interesting. Concussion concerns? Are participation rates up in another sport in particular?

Kid played some fine defense, too. -

This series was full of defensive faux pas. I can handle them losing when being outplayed. But when they add to it themselves, it’s disappointing. Today’s game was certainly winnable with clean defense. Going forward, can they hide the defense of both Carpenter and Malloy daily? Can they hide it in maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of the games? I don’t expect Malloy will be an everyday player and it remains to be seen if Carpenter will get starts vs LHPs. So maybe around 60-70 games they need to send one of the two out to the field and hope for the best? -

I’ve been ready to move on. But, I understand this series in Miami has some emotions for Cabrera himself and for the Miami (both Marlins and South Florida population) fan bases. It’s not going to affect the Tigers as far as a playoff chance is concerned. They have a couple of off days coming up. So I can understand and appreciate him playing all 3 games this weekend. And fortunately he had some good moments this weekend and it was obvious that Cabrera and the Miami crowd enjoyed it. -
Who would have guessed after the BIG 8/12 lost Nebraska and Colorado and the PAC12 also took in Utah that it would be the PAC12 to be the first of the power 5 to crumble? Let’s also not forget about the Rose Bowl and it’s life long affiliation with the PAC12. Seems like the bowl might be the granddaddy of them all, but it probably loses some of its power with future playoff/championship arrangements as an indirect effect of these recent falling dominoes.

Yes, that tweet seemed odd to me. 3 HR in 4 IP is disappointing to me.

It’s funny how some days can be easy and others can be an absolute grind after like 3 or 4. Yesterday’s grid I flew through in about 2 minutes with 0 wrong. Today was a strain to get to 6 of 9. The parallel of the day-to-day between this and a player or team on the field is uncanny. I tried for rarity points the other day with Jim Price as an answer for Pittsburgh-Detroit. It was a great plan except that he never played for Pittsburgh. He only played in their minors until he was purchased by the Tigers. -

That’s interesting. I had glanced at a job at an Ohio battery manufacturer not that long ago.

Nah, Toledo beat Michigan.

I wonder if we’ll see along the line somewhere that this current bubble bursts and there might be a return to smaller population conferences? Maybe that’s where the deadwood decides to band together to form a division of steams in between the current FBS and FCS?
-
It wasn’t all that long ago that Michigan would have been a relegated team. I wonder how that would have went over with the fan base.

The thing I don’t like about promotion/relegation is that current season standings have a factor of last season built into it. It just doesn’t make any sense to me. Each season should be its own entity based solely upon that season.

Sure, it’s the dream. The Tigers are in a similar division. They’ve turned over the front office. The fan base will support a competitive product. They’ve got a few youngsters to build around. Get it going on the right direction, draft & develop. Why not dream big?

Sure. Athletes are probably too much into the repetitive nature that what Cueto does can’t be attempted by all. I would think it takes a certain mindset and lots of tinkering along the way to be successful with it. I don’t know if it’d be similar, but Scherzer’s varying tosses to 1B to keep the running game in check comes to mind. He’s never really had a good pickoff move. But what he did learn along the way was to adjust his timing if he did throw over in order to keep the runner more honest about taking off. -
I’d be happy with emulating St. Louis’ last 20-25 seasons.

Except he’s not entertaining.

They’re dumping more than Cousin Eddie did.

Well, if he connects just right, he won’t have to run.

I may be in the minority, but I like Cueto’s approach on the mound. Yes, he’s old, his stuff ain’t what it used to be. But he augments what he has with variations on the mound. Moving around on the slab. Quick pitches and slight delays in his deliveries. Adding some of those little things to add discomfort to the batter to try to make up for the aging stuff and movement. Just trying to get whatever advantage he can from pitch to pitch. -

Yes, I thought Ibanez might have been the pinch runner. But, hey, Cabrera had a vintage line drive to RF for a double. Gotta think he’s relishing his opportunity this weekend. And the Miami crowd has seemed really receptive to him. It’s a nice personal series for him. -

Sure, they could call up Sands and his sub .700 OPS. -

I’m not sure it was conclusive. I think it was one of those plays that don’t get overturned no matter what the original call was. I do think he was safe. I think there was a slight bit of movement of the mitt, but I don’t know if that was from a tag or the progression of a catch and attempt at a tag. -

I was watching FS1 and they mentioned how, per Hinch, Baddoo had gotten a little pull happy the pitch or two before the home run. It was well timed.
