  1. Or when we're ready for a new regime.
  2. I don't understand "classic" when they've never worn green before. I don't mind the jerseys. The sideways stripes on the shorts are bit odd. But I like the simple shirts. Green & yellow work well together.
  3. It was a smart play by the defender. I really didn't pick up on any movement towards 2B but then I didn't see what the umpire saw. Its probably one of those plays where, from the angle posted here, it could have gone either way.
  4. What kind of conversations did you have whilst holding the runner on?
  5. Yes, I remember learning this at an early age. When I coached, we worked on this in one of the first few practices of the seasons. We would have the base coaches, and we would run through 1B on hits and on running through outs or close plays. See the bag, listen for the coach's voice.
  6. He's likely to get his shot. The Tigers are probably due for another pitching injury soon.
  7. Seemed like a good idea at the time.
  8. Seattle Mariners (71-58) at Detroit Tigers (50-79)
  9. Grossman, Candelario, Baddoo, Schoop,... they've all bottomed out this season after last season, just completely and absurdly fell off of the cliff. CastoW, CastroH, Reyes, Haase,.... they've all maintained or improved, but they're all within shouting distance of 100 OPS+, so is there much of a gain here? Now you throw in guys like Torkelson, Baez, Greene,..... 3 newcomers to Detroit, 2 of which have fallen short of expectations and one which is middle of the road. It's easy to say Coolbaugh (and maybe Hessman) should be removed and new hitting coaches brought in this offseason. And that's where my opinion is. But I guess I am open to the idea that these are the same coaches that had success with the first quartet last season and "improved" the second grouping of players, so maybe the blame doesn't solely fall on the shoulders of the coaching. A lot of issues have gone wrong with this lineup. Slumps that haven't ended, injuries, new acquisitions that haven't panned out. Who knows, maybe last year was just about as lucky as could be expected and this season was the exact opposite, and the bridge between those two extremes is just something short of average?
  10. I think part of the reason was a question about if Jung's bat would translate to MLB fastballs.
  11. Seattle Mariners (70-58) at Detroit Tigers (50-78)
  12. I wish we could bring back the Suarez for Simon thread.
  13. Yeah, sounds like he pulled himself.
  14. On the opposite end of that pitching rotation spectrum, Verlander left his game early today. I’m pretty sure that the talking heads said it was the 1st time in the last 41 games that a Houston starter has failed to go at least 5 innings.
  15. They’re on the hook for the salary next season. The contract is what it is. If he doesn’t want to retire, so be it. They can decide to put him on the IL if he isn’t physically suited to swing a bat 3-5 times a game. He doesn’t have to be on the active roster taking up space with a bad knee. It might be a PR hit, but what part of the fan base gets annoyed by it? How many people are going to buy tickets next season with the hopes of seeing him play?
  16. 7 run lead with 3 innings to go?
  17. I’m not sure there’s much bravery to it. He is no longer a baseball player. He’s a hack. He’s a below 100 OPS+ for the past 7 seasons (6 1/2 if you want to asterisk the 2020 season). He’s played in 4 games of the last 13 game days with 3 off days tucked in there. So he’s been healthy enough to swing a bat in 4 games in the last 16 days. His career is hall of fame. His current status is a joke.
  18. Absolutely. Hey, its great if Hinch is willing to go to bat for his players. But this team isn't the Miguel Caberas. Its the Detroit Tigers. If he isn't capable of doing anything at all to help the team in the foreseeable future, and if Hinch is indeed the genie behind the curtain that we were force fed last season when everything was wonderful, then what are they doing by continuing on with a completely useless body on the active roster? Is it possible Hinch really is the wet noodle that the trash can issue suggest he is and Cabrera is forcing the issue to remain off of the IL?
  19. A healthy able bodied baseball player? Cabrera is absolutely worthless right now. Heck, Daz Cameron is a more effective baseball player right now simply because he can do baseball things like play defense or pinch run. Cabrera sits in the dugout with a bad knee. Where is the value with that?
  20. What does the batting practice pitcher depth chart look like these days?
  21. Scherzer is often injured? A five man pitching staff means 32 spots per slot. He consistently gets 30 starts per season, unless baseball reference is lying to us. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/scherma01.shtml
  22. No Cabera again. Good thing they keep his unavailability on the active roster so that he can chase those DNP milestones.
  23. His .693 OPS is good for a 102 OPS+.
