So, home teams sweep the first round and then road jerseys sweep the second round. Coincidence?
-
The silence was deafening. I saw him taken off in the stretcher and I was done watching the game. Oh, man, what a tough deal. He and the team had the miserable season last year. Clearly he and they have turned things around. And then this. Fortunately it’s a bone break that should heal. Hopefully he heals up completely and that quickness doesn’t suffer.

Gonna need video for proof of the plunge.
-
I also think it was targeting. Buckle up, suckas, overtime.

Not so fast, my friend. Texas had Clemson and Arizona State, arguably the two worst teams in the playoffs. They made it through one but they’re kind of fumblimg this one away.
-
Tied at 24. There was a “harmless” safety at 17-3 to get ASU up to 5 in the 3rd quarter. Texas RB get popped in the end zone, the ball literally flew into Quinn’s hands, and he had nothing he could do. But kudos to ASU. They needed 2 TDs and 2 two point conversions to square this game up.
-
ASU making a game of it now. RB Skattebo with a TD pass and then a 2 point conversion. Just picked off a Texas pass. Oh, balls…. ASU ain’t done yet at all. Deep pass to Skattebo right after the interception.

It’d be interesting to see how much of that WAR was earned with the original drafting team.

Not that I was clamoring to watch it, but I wonder how TV for the Gator Bowl tomorrow gets rerouted for the Sugar Bowl. I suppose one of them gets moved to ABC? Or do they move up kickoff of the Gator Bowl from 7:30 to 4:00 or 4:30?

Who would Kim be blocking in 2026?
-
What a terrible way to live life.
-
Likely true about Kim at 3B for this year. But he’s played SS as well, so who knows how Hinch would deploy him. I wouldn’t think Vierling at 3B and Kim at SS vs RHPs would be surprising. The other thing with Kim is that his next contract is probably shorter term to prove his wing is fixed. If that’s true, than his contract isn’t likely to age into an albatross. The same cannot be said for what Bregman is likely to receive. He’ll almost certainly be a shorter term contract at much lower salary and opportunity cost doesn’t get soaked up. Sure, the Tigers have low payroll now. But what about possible extensions due to Greene and Skubal?

There’s also the little detail about how much resourcing that would have been used for the game is now redirected to the attack. If there’s enough investigation and other aftermath derived from the bombing, the resources might simply be spread too thin today. Sounds like they’ve swept the Superdome today. I don’t know, but that might also cut into whatever pregame activities are performed by both teams, stadium/bowl infrastructure, etc. I’m sure they normally do some pregame check of some sort. But this probably gets ramped up now.

Navigato was also untaken in the rule 5 draft. Any team could have had him for free, and nobody drafted him. I tend to agree with Kreidler. It seemed a head scratcher to keep him on the 40.

Yes, very true about the medicals. I’m just going with what I’ve seen about him being available in May. And by that assumption, I also assume he’ll be ready for IF duty as well. Maybe wean him into it at first, maybe that means some rehab in the minors. But if he can be ready around Memorial Day, who is the better 3B option currently on the team? No question Bregman is the better player and I understand that’s who most folks want. But if he signs elsewhere, how do the Tigers pivot?
-
I’d prefer they try to rehab some worth of Torkelson. That might mean he need to kill it as a Mud Hen and the return still won’t be reflective of what his potential was. That sucks. But I don’t think trading him now is going to net much of anything at all anyway. He’s not going to be a headliner for Bichette even if Toronto thinks they can fix him.
-
I think Kim could probably that stop gap for the next 2 seasons with the assumption that he’ll be not available to begin this season. I think that’s fine given that someone that is assumed to be a part of the IF (or OF with Vierling going to the grass to cover that) is likely to be hurt at some point this season. Essentially he’s an early season trade acquisition that can lengthen the lineup but won’t cost any prospect capital. It’s just money and they can find a spot on the 26/40 for him.

Maybe a simple swap of Thompson and for either Harris or Hardaway? And maybe that’s based on the opposite front line? I think there should be enough offense workload covered with at least 2 of Cunningham/Ivey/Beasley in the backcourt. If the Harris that was hoped for would show up, that’d be helpful. Having Thompson and Stewart in the game is nice defensively, but I’m not sure if that’s giving up too much on the offensive side. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems like getting that 3rd option on the floor has not been easy or not consistent enough.

Reports are coming out that Jimmy Carter has passed at 100 years old.

I didn’t think about going directly to Cabrera for quotes. I don’t know, seems like not much to me unless Cabrera were to come out and refute it. As for Cabrera’s relationship with the Tigers, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s only ceremonial in nature right now. I don’t think there’s anything necessary awkward or nefarious if that were true. The guy has lived the baseball life for years. If he wants a break from it, maybe he wants more family time right now, or is sick of the travel, or whatever the case is, so be it. I would think that the “special advisor” roles are like that for former players/managers. You get a title, you’re invited to things like Leyland’s number retirement, you’re a combination mascot/official. Now Leyland probably does do some scouting and serious baseball work that the front office can use. It just seems like that’s his nature, a true baseball lifer. Maybe it’s not in a full time capacity like some of the other (younger) front office personnel. That’s my wholly unqualified opinion.

Urshela should’of had more presence in the headline?

You know, you can’t find a good trough urinal anymore like you used to be able to back in the day.
-
Yeah, they were due. A 3-1 trip out west, I’ll take it. I’m not sure last year’s ensemble could’ve gone 3-1 on a road trip to Oakland University.

It’s unseasonably warm here today. I took the bicycle out for a spin. (1) It’s been a while, so it wasn’t the easiest of treks. (2) The unseasonably warm was being blown in by some fairly strong gusts, so it wasn’t the easiest of treks. Regardless, it was a better time than shoveling snow would have been.

I just wonder if he was brought up too early and that’s stunted his growth. They brought him up and he hit in the lower third of the lineup. The bottom third of the lineup isn’t where to put a 1B bat. And the Tigers weren’t so offensively blessed that a prospect that’s ready for the show should’ve been in the bottom third of the lineup.
