I think that there will be some very unhappy members of the pitching staff who will most definitely want Hill out there, and will not want to see Willi anywhere on the field.
No, it won't. The allegation was that Hinch would be blamed for poor individual performance. That has never happened here, ever. What has happened here is that he was given credit for good individual performance, frequently. But what has never happened here is that he was blamed for poor individual performance, ever. Which has nothing whatsoever to do with the defensive alignment that he chose for the outfield.
I always thought that Beckham screwed up his career all by himself. If he had called himself "Gord" or "Gordie" that would have been worth another 50 points of OPS right there. But "Gordon", come on did you think you were a mortician an accountant?
In 2020, in a very short season, Willi looked like a major league hitter. I can't blame them for trying to rediscover that, but it is looking more and more like a mirage. Theoretically he is a switch hitter, but he can't hit right-handers.
Clemens can't play short but neither can Willi. To me this is an obvious move and I have never been high on Clemens at all, but let's try something.
Absolutely no one is blaming Hinch because guys aren't hitting. We are just citing an instance in which what seemed to us as an extremely dumb lineup construction was responsible for a loss.
Agreed, it isn't good. If you know you are going to have trouble scoring runs, always use actual outfielders in the outfield, not shortstops who can't play short or catchers who can't catch. That loss is going to bug me for a long time.
