  1. Just to be dickheads, let's announce that we are considering allowing Taiwan into NATO.
  2. You don't care for Chuck Todd? For hosts and panelists who begin every sentence with "Look"?
  3. Oh my goodness, he is just horrible. I couldn't get all the way through the interview.
  4. Funny you should mention horse racing, I watched the Belmont on Youtube a couple of days ago, the one that Secretariat won by the length of a football field. There were only 4 other horses in the race, everyone else had given up after the Preakness. It was like watching one of those early Mike Tyson fights.
  5. He displays the most common sense of any of the 3 main party leaders, but the disappearance of unuionized manufacturing jobs puts his party dead in the water before an election even starts. The other 2 parties always shamelessly suck up to the teachers who by default are the strongest remaining group in organized labour, and the NDP can not establish a base there. But I agree, for a professional politician he is the closest thing that we have to a decent human being.
  6. Miss Lulu was very, very hot.
  7. He is relatively harmless compared to the alternatives. He is less popular domestically than he seems to be internationally. He isn't as smart as his father, not even close, but he's not as arrogant either. He has made a couple of public relations faux pas that make him seem very hypocritical and cynical. I am not a big fan, but I have voted for him. I think that a minority government, which is what we have now, is a good outcome.
  8. They should have the same arbitration rules in both leagues.
  9. I'm definitely on board with drafting anybody named Elvis.
  10. Putin's going to appear at Dealey Plaza with JFK Jr.
  11. Don't even respond.
  12. That 76 team, with its losing record, provided as much or more enjoyment than any other team in my lifetime. And those 1960s teams before 1968 were so much fun to follow, good teams every year. I don't need a World Series to have a good year following baseball.
  13. In 17 innings this year, 18 walks and 14 strikeouts. Somewhat reminiscent of Ricky Vaughn.
  14. I agree, it is silly to announce that a bunch of freeloaders will not be attending. Nobody cares.
  15. Yes that's it exactly. The vast majority of residents of G20 countries would say exactly the same thing, word for word. They would not be very interested in relocating to any of the other G20 countries, even if language were not a barrier. The country that they currently live in, its flaws notwithstanding, meets their needs unless they are at the lower end of the socioeconomic scale.
  16. That's how I feel and I suspect most of us feel the same way. I am lucky to have been born into a free society, with readily accessible education and health care and a favourable business environment. Coulda been worse. But almost everybody who lives in the G20 would say the same thing, and boasting that "this is the greatest country in the world" is not something that you would ever hear from the residents of the other G20 countries. As you said, other countries are probably just as good or better. There are lots of those "best countries" indices out there on the internet and the Scandinavian countries usually are ranked pretty high. An interesting one is the UN's Human Development Index whose rankings are derived from 3 factors: life expectancy, education, and per capita income adjusted by Purchasing Power Parity. It produces a list that is a bit different from the usual "best countries".
  17. It's easy to find articles online in which his former teammates were interviewed.
  18. I've never heard a Black baseball player call him one. Quite the opposite. I will take Willie Stargell's opinion over Arnold Hano's.
  19. They are incredibly excited. "Incredibly" seems to have replaced "very" in our vocabulary. Personally I find it to be very credible that they are excited. Or should I say incredibly credible.
  20. No, he was not. He didn't take any crap from people, especially the crackers on the Phillies when he first got there.
  21. Yes that's a surprise that he didn't get to 2,000. He had some big individual year totals, but not a long enough career.
  22. Yes a lot of Oliva's came from an achievement that was more valued in the 60's, the "batting championship". He won 3, including his first 2 years in the league. He was MVP runner up twice. I'm kind of surprised that he wasn't in before now.
  23. There is a scene in Field of Dreams that drives me nuts. Archie Graham has just arrived and is excitedly identifying players...Smokey Joe Wood is one I think...and then he says "and Gil Hodges!". Gil Hodges wasn't even born yet when Moonlight Graham played. He has to be the most overrated player in history. And I'm really ticked off about Dick Allen.
  24. I'll never understand the appeal of Gil Hodges. As for Dick Allen he should have been in there decades ago. You look at his stats, and read the anecdotes about him as a player, and you just shake your head. I guess he'll never get in.
