  6. Went down the Google hole. I was a bit surprised that John Denver had a hand in writing the song in 1973 and had a fair size Christmas season hit. Alan Jackson recorded it 20 years later. I worked at a station in the early 1980s that went all Christmas right after Thanksgiving. My music guy was pretty good. I don't remember adding it to a regular rotation. It ranks up there with Grandma Got Run Over...as songs I really never want to hear again

  13. His interviewers address their questions to “Mr. Franklin” (not “Governor”), but rather than answer questions from an “illegal Assembly,” Franklin repeats his objection to the provincial congress calling him an enemy of his country and seizing his person without legal grounds. After each question, the interviewer pauses briefly, then when Franklin doesn’t answer, moves on to his next one. (The crime Franklin is accused of is summoning a meeting of the province’s legal assembly, challenging the authority of the provincial and Continental congresses.) Only when asked to confirm that he threatened Colonel Heard (the officer who arrested him) does Franklin react, angrily demanding that Heard be brought into the room to make the accusation himself. This provokes an argument between his interrogators, some of whom want Heard brought in while others do not. In the end, Heard is brought into the room but not allowed to testify. The Continental Congress have already agreed with the provincial congress that it would be inappropriate to hold Franklin in New Jersey; therefore, word is sent to the Continental Congress to find somewhere else to incarcerate him.

  15. I think it was ment to keep the Church from being the fourth branch of the government. Putting Baptists, Presbyterians, Catholics, Jews, and Islam on the same footing. Not having the Church of England or Anglicans then every other religion in secondary roles.
  16. Of all things that keep him up at night. Sounds like the rantings of a five year old
  17. A bit of history... Virginia has enacted a freedom of religion clause as part of its Declaration of Rights this month, but Anglican Church is still legally established. It won't be separated from taxpayer support until a 1786 statute, drafted by Thomas Jefferson and championed by James Madison, is passed.
