  1. And then there’s Archie Campbell on Hockey
  2. This is like a scene from Succession. Replace DeSantis with Roman Roy and the dialogue is the same..
  3. From the Google machine.. At the Loons’ home park in Midland, Mich., the timer is operated by a rotating crew of four retirees and five high school and college kids on internships. At Classic Park, the Daktronics All Sport 5000 Series Control Console is run by Brian Solar, a semi-retired former Federal Reserve Bank vault teller who was brought on as a seasonal employee. “The ump doesn’t tell you when to start the clock all the time,” Solar said. “You have to have your own sense of when it should start. So if there’s a base hit out to left field and they throw the ball into the shortstop, it’s kind of up to you to decide, ‘OK, now start the 30-second clock between batters.’ You have to develop a feel of not doing it too soon. Because if you do, the ump is going to signal for you to cut the clock.” So it’s an important job. Solar takes it seriously, meeting with the umps before each game to go over hand signals. https://www.mlb.com/news/how-pitch-clock-is-working-in-minor-leagues-in-2022
  4. Not something I expect to worry about here, but when we lived in Michigan I can remember a few first snows of the season where I had to fight with the snow blower to get the gas/oil mix right (before switching to the synthetic stuff). If I could just pop the battery in (or charge it overnight) it would have saved a lot of angst.
  5. I would think Disney's announcement about canceling plans for expansion in Florida would be more damning in the long run than a mayoral election result. I see more milage about DeSantis discouraging business growth in the state with his cultural wars. But what do I know, Youngkin doesn't seem to be phased about chasing a battery plant out of the most impoverished portion of Virginia.
  6. They deserve each other Cue the Pat Benatar song
  7. He's running...just over 1 year experience in government and a failure in business (he was forced out @ the Carlyle Group). A MAGA in Red Fleece. Beware of false prophets.
  8. When I moved the pot to the garage last fall I had no expectations...
  9. A FB post from a former colleague
  10. Maybe Bruce (Catlyn) needs to look in a mirror...
  11. Back in the days when I golfed a bit, I had a friend who hit a low line drive off the tee and took out a bird (it wasn't a goose, probably closer to a starling or mocking bird that inhabited the course) After his shot he turned to his partner. "I told you I'd get a birdie on this hole"
  12. The big problem with goats is they tend to over fertilize.
  13. Evidently she's still there. Maybe... My hope is they give her a show from 2-4 AM Eastern time. Basically what radio did back in the day with personalities they couldn't afford to fire because they were dumb enough to give them huge contracts.
  14. And the beat goes on…and on and on
  15. This should be an interesting case. Considering a certain "conservative" Governor who ran on school and classroom choice. The mothers here basically say I respect you not wanting your child to read certain books, but in doing so don't restrict MY Child from reading...
  16. Is Andy Dirks in the radio booth today? Still trying to get used to the new voices.
  17. This kinda goes back to the college realignment discussion. The Super Conference have become more of a minor league than they were in the past. The better option would be to affiliate with one of the lesser leagues. That would be closer to what was loosely tried back in the late 60s and early 70s with entities like the Atlantic Coast Football League that had a loose affiliation with NFL teams at the time
  18. And for a while Mets games as well. Your choice was Harry Carey, Ralph Kiner or the Braves guys.
  19. This is the time of year where a lot of school groups are at the ballpark
  20. It seems Meadows had a case of COVID in 2020 as well. A bit of digging found this article. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2021/03/02/rays-austin-meadows-looks-to-bounce-back-after-being-set-back-by-coronavirus/ Considering, the injuries after the trade as well as a second round of COVID, not to mention whatever upheaval the trade to Detroit may have caused late in Spring training. Hopefully he can recover, it seems like a lot of stress in a fairly short amount of time.
  21. That whole area has exploded since we lived there in the mid to late 90s. My son graduated from Waubansee High School. It looks like they've opened up a new school next to our old subdivision. I liked the area, close to the Prairie Path for biking. The Metra stop was about a mile or so from the house. Hated RT 59 however
  22. I have no real clue where Chicago's "Southside" starts. Is it south of Grant Park or somewhere near Midway? My Aurora remark came from an incident about 25 or so years ago. A group of developers/realtors were holding a "Homarama", showing new home models on the Naperville/Aurora line. Technically they were in Aurora but were advertising themselves as Naperville, especially with the school system. Aurora's mayor at the time got a bit upset and turned off the city water to the site until they changed the ads.
