  1. I think the "official announced" diagnosis was Cronic Venus Insufficency". Basically a weakening of the veins in his legs. From what I've read it's serious, but not necessarily fatal. There is a risk of blood clots in the legs, especially in older obese individuals from what I've read. It makes sense, especially if you watch his gait when he walks. He is obese and I really don't consider swinging a golf club while riding around in a golf cart serious exercise. But then I not a doctor, so what do I know
  2. https://www.brookings.edu/articles/the-collapse-of-bipartisan-immigration-reform-a-guide-for-the-perplexed/ The easiest explanation is that Republicans in both the House and Senate yielded to objections from their all-but-certain presidential nominee, former president Donald Trump. Once the House Speaker stated publicly that he would not allow the Senate bill to reach the House floor for a vote, Republican senators were unwilling to run the political risk of supporting a measure that would not become law. However, there are deeper reasons for the deadlock over immigration. The last comprehensive immigration reform was enacted almost four decades ago, during Ronald Reagan’s presidency. This bill represented a grand bargain between elected officials who sought to extend legal protection to millions of migrants who had entered the U.S. illegally and officials who were most concerned about stemming the flow of such migrants. The bill accomplished the former but had no discernible impact on the latter, leading many conservatives to denounce it as an “amnesty” bill.

  4. August 26 https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/august-25 On August 25, 1944, after more than four years of Nazi occupation, Paris is liberated by the French 2nd Armored Division and the U.S. 4th Infantry Division. German resistance was light, and General Dietrich von Choltitz, commander of the German garrison, defied an order by Adolf Hitler to blow up Paris’ landmarks and burn the city to the ground before its liberation. Choltitz signed a formal surrender that afternoon, and on August 26, Free French General Charles de Gaulle led a joyous liberation march down the Champs d’Elysees. On August 25, 1835, the first in a series of six articles announcing the supposed discovery of life on the moon appears in the New York Sunnewspaper. Known collectively as “The Great Moon Hoax,” the articles were supposedly reprinted from the Edinburgh Journal of Science. The byline was Dr. Andrew Grant, described as a colleague of Sir John Herschel, a famous astronomer of the day. Herschel had in fact traveled to Capetown, South Africa, in January 1834 to set up an observatory with a powerful new telescope. As Grant described it, Herschel had found evidence of life forms on the moon, including such fantastic animals as unicorns, two-legged beavers and furry, winged humanoids resembling bats. The articles also offered vivid description of the moon’s geography, complete with massive craters, enormous amethyst crystals, rushing rivers and lush vegetation.
  5. Let me add, this was about the same time that teleministers started going polical under the guise of Christianity
  6. When churches begin chasing the $$$ all bets are off. Mega churches and their ministers are false prophets.
  7. Who would know the difference. I say that as a Pirate fan from the ‘60s. They are currently my #2 team

  10. I guess we can start calling Trump a Socialist now...in fact the entire party is akin to 1950s-2000 USSR Thank you for your attention to this matter
  11. The Cracker Barrel thing along with several of the "changes" in the past only prove that hard core MAGA "influencers" are actually big cry babies.
  12. I don't think a President Vance would be an upgrade. It's probably what the hard core oligarchs would love
  13. I like this thinking. In Michigan the Michigan Learning Channel has received bipartisan support from the state legislature since it was started during the Pandemic. It’s also received high praise from some of the most conservative members On a personal note, this was my wife’s “baby” so there is a personal connection https://www.michiganlearning.org
  14. Is FAUX starting to turn?
  15. That may be the bottom line. Pairings matter, the PBP guy may be adequate but a poor "color commentator" could actually bring down a broadcast. Monroe was bad both on TV and the few radio broadcasts I listened to. Unfortunately Gibson's health contributed to his ability to perform up to even his own standards (I listened to the old Locker Room on WXYT with Gibson, Gary Danielson and Eli Zaret) plus his early TV Tigers stuff. Shep isn't strong enough to enhance a sidekick
  16. Didn't the Trumps Supreme Court already rule that Presidents are immune from their actions while in office? They have also seemed to lean toward excusing Trump from his out of office actions. Part of the Court's CalvinBall thinking with Trump. It's now DonaldBall, he can do no wrong
  17. The Cubs didn't begin retiring uniform numbers until 1982 with Ernie Banks. Players like Gabby Hartnett for example played before uniform numbers became an established thing. Many of the greats played for several teams besides the Cubs. The team also has always seemed had a very conservative stance on retiring numbers, unlike say the Yankees,
  18. I prefer the term Godfather. in the Mario Puzo sense

  20. It's basically revenge. I would wager there are no boxes sitting in bathrooms or garages.
  21. Shep is best suited sitting in a studio giving score updates. Nothing more
  22. I admit that I'm in the minority. I want four eight team divisions. 4 division winners, the next 4 best records make the playoffs from each "League". I want the "World Champs" to earn their trophy. I'm agnostic about dividing among divisions, would like to keep the traditional AL and NL teams remain in their leagues. Maybe going back to the pre 1961 days. There would be a couple issues, Atlanta comes to mind. The current Milwaukee club has been in place longer than it was in Seattle. Dodgers and Giants are staples, of course on the west coast. Maybe just make the Athletics play all their games on the road considering how much they've moved
  23. I posted this in the History thread, but for those who don't venture into the political Juan Marichal, Johnny Roseboro fight. Marichal attacked Roseboro after he felt that Roseboro had intentionally brushed him back returning a pitch to Sandy Koufax
  24. Especially after placing our orders and waiting a half hour before being told they had run out. The one Hardeeville, SC is dead to me
