  1. The questionable part in drafting Carter wasn't year one, it was year two and year three. Like Rueben Foster. The Lions weren't the only team to pass on him.
  2. Goff is a legit top tier QB now. I didn't believe he could reach this level of play because QB's with his physical limitiations usually have a lower ceiling. Tom Brady's and Drew Brees are pretty rare. Even moreso in today's NFL. He processes plays in the middle of the field as well as any QB, plus he makes very few mistakes and knows when to give up on the play. His greatest strength is his accuracy however. I'm sure Campbell and Ben unlocked some of that but it is obviously difficult to to just teach those things.
  3. I just think Holmes and Campbell rated Carter lower due to his not being enough of a knee cap biter. And maybe he will get into some trouble once he has a full offseason to himself. That said i wanted him too. I still think DT is a big need. I wouldn't be surprised to see them address it at the trade deadline.
  4. This game will be a limus test for the defense. Atlanta has a bad passing offense, if they get torched again with zero pass rush it is time to panic.
  5. I saw that both of Seattle's starting OT's were injured yesterday. Not sure of their status for next week.
  6. DJ Chark is out for a while with a hamstring injury in Carolina. I'll admit i was one of those that thought he should have been brought back but his constant short term injuries went into Holmes' and Campbells reasoning to shop elsewhere.
  7. I think the Lions will be looking to add a player or two after cuts next week. They could be looking at OT, pretty much every one they have now beyond Decker and Sewell is replacement level. At WR there are still a few free agents unsigned including Kenny Galaday lol. Julio Jones is another. And they may look for a fourth DT if they don't think Levi can cut it.
  8. then he should bring back more in trade value.
  9. it seems like the Tigers have had tons of these types over the years. guys with tons of raw power and tools only to be undone by the inability to square a baseball up. I'm sure every organization has a bunch of guys that fit that description, but I can't remember any panning out for us.
  10. I was all set to add Xfinity streaming service until i noticed that it is a 1 year commitment with early cancellation fees. Oh well, You Tube TV again.
  11. This may be what MCS saw. Just a stupid proposal. https://www.si.com/nfl/buccaneers/news/proposed-trade-sends-buccaneers-star-linebacker-to-detroit-lions
  12. The more I read about Mims is he is looking good. Raymond is a lock i think so that only leaves 1 or 2 spots open. Jones will probably make it but if the like the upside of Green or Drummond and they don't think Jones has much left he may not.
  13. Rogers Hornsby was well known red-ass in the baseball field. He got into an argument at 2B one time and after some back and forth punched the guy in the face. After the game a reporter asked we he hit the other player and he said "i wasn't getting anywhere talking to him".
  14. Listening to the Mgo podacast last night. They believe that with the players inevitably getting a large chunk of the TV money in the near future, the conferences are making up the lost millions through expansion. The original BIG teams split TV money equally, but some of these teams newer to the conference may get negotiated down some. Brian's theory is that at some point OSU or Michingan is going to lose a top recruit to the $EC and come to the realization that they should not be splitting TV money with equally Northwestern, Indiana, Rutgers, etc. And they will leave the Big Ten and go it alone and form their own nework to broadcast games. TV money has watered down the game day experience anyway to the point the big teams play about 3 competitive games a year and we now have games loaded with endless commercials. Conferences are in it for themselves and it is a matter of time before individual universites follow suit.
  15. Eduardo to Boston for Marcello Mayer, and we throw in Jackson Jobe.
  16. Doug Decinces was convicted of insider trading and sentenced to prison time. So he may not be the answer either.
  17. Avila made those changes about a year before his firing. In that press conference he also reiterated how the Tigers would not change most of their traditional ways of development. Yes he did make changes toward the end, but most of his tenure he surrounded himself with Littlefield Chadd, and Lunetta. Gardenhire was brought in and lasted 3 years for effs sakes. I don't think that was the kind of decision that a progressive front office makes.
  18. Avila would have benfitted greatly if he had brought in some younger analytically inclined minds into his front office. Instead he surrounded himself with a bunch of 60 somethings who probably had less of an clue on how baseball was changing than he did. The fact that he didn't look around and see how the Tigers were falling behind should have resulted in his dismissal much sooner. Smart leaders understand what they do know and what they do not know.
  19. Baez isn't the only SS that sucks from that group of FA's after 2021. Correa has a 717 OPS this year and Turner has a 687. Seager is hitting but he was the biggest injury risk and most peoples least favorite. Jay's 575 OPS takes the cake though.
