My fear is at 6M Brad isn't going to bring in much else unless they add someone in the draft. That price is the little too much to pay a reserve and not enough to land a 3 down starter range given their cap situation. Brad could add someone from your list though, they have some cap space and the ablity to create more. My guess is it will be another lower priced guy just going by how this off-season is unfolding.

The guy had 3 sacks in 15 games and "hasn't looked the same since his quad surgery". He will contribute setting an edge but is not the pass rusher most were expecting. I just hope this isn't they guy that gets most of the snaps opposite Hutch. I get that they prioritize run defense with the front four, but you have to be able to get after the QB in todays game. Brad seems to be doing the same things over and over with the defense.

Wonnum reminds me of when the Tigers acquire an injury prone SP that is coming off a year where he had a 4.65 ERA. But had a 3.25 ERA three years earlier.

If what they are saying about McCarthy is correct, he is very underdeveloped. Generally what you want from a backup is someone who can step in and run the offense. It sounds like JJ can not do that.
-
Reading how much of a bust JJ McCarthy is with the Vikings. He has been hurt but when healthy they say the team had to dumb down the offense for him to function. Kind of shocking that the coach who helped develope Andrew Luck sends a multiple year starting QB to the league that can't read a defense. And he was the best QB of his 10 year run. 2023 was a great year and I thank Harbaugh for that but I am glad he is gone. The cheating accusations are petty for the most part, especailly compared to the blatent cheating the SEC and OSU were doing. Just a weird dude who is also not very good at the one thing he should have been good at. If they had some decent QB's in those early years they win a few more big ten titles.

Had a teams meeting scheduled with some Stryker folks yesterday, noone showed up. Spoke with someone later yesterday and everyones laptops and cell phone that logged in got wiped. Those that tried to use their laptops got the blue screen of death. They sent everyone home from the Portage plant, no production indefinitely.

If they hit on this draft and a one or two guys from the Tyleik Williams, Rakestraw, and Terrion Arnold group breakout they will be fine. That and staying healthy. If they play a little more 2 deep safeties i'm hoping the CB's improve quite a bit.

It's like buying stuff on a credit card. Sooner or later the lions will have to pay all of the guarentees in Goff's contract. And with this restructuring they are converting some of the base salary due this year, which wasn't guarenteed, into guarenteed money due later on.

These prices are making those third round picks look more valuable.

A couple of trades. Rashaan Gary to the Cowboys and Minkah Fitzpatrick to the Jets. Two guys i wouldn't have minded picking up until i saw the cap hits, 18+ for each of them.
-
Plus it cost extra picks for Arnold, Manu, and Vaki. I think there is still hope for a few of these guys, but this is the year for them to show it.
-
As much as I respect Decker this is probably the best outcome for the team. Freeling or Fano would be nice. Then still a lot of money to address other issues.

I think they will add a FA to take over at C or guard. If they do not they are basically running the same line out as last year. That would leave those 3 fighting for one starting guard position, with the other 2 as backups. I guess i could see that, as long as they don't draft an IOL as well.
-
Can't see them keeping all three of Mahogany, Frazier, and Scruggs. He might have the edge since he can backup at center.

My mistake.

There is a rumor that Alito will retire very soon. They want to get out in front of the house going blue and possibly the senate as well. I'm sure they will nominate an early 40 something to get 20 plus years out of them.

Aside from using these shootings to score politcal points, what would you suggest to do to help? Send all trans folks to concentration camps?

He was great in this movie as well. Basically the same charactor he was in Apocolypse now, but a family man.

I was diagnosed as a type 2 right when i turned 50. For the next 6 years i cycled through all of the type 2 medications (and side efects) all the while i kept losing weight. Finally i went to ER and was diagnosed as a type 1 and spent 4 days in ICU. I was seeing a Dr. regularly but he was an older guy and never thought to test for type 1 antibodies i guess. Modern technolgy has made living with type 1 a lot easier than even 20 years ago, pre cell phone and closed loop pumps. Having a CGM gives me constant feedback on the effects on what i am eating and the effects of my activity. It is easy to gain weight on insulin so i limit my carbs daily to 80-100 a day and avoid high glycemic foods altogether. I also workout regularly, working out can drop your numbers fast. Especially cardio for me. So i have to bring snacks just in case. My advice is if you can get insurance to cover a CGM get one if you don't already have one. It makes controlling your blood sugar a lot easier.

They have 6 positions in the starting lineup they need to fill by either resigning last years starter or replacing with a FA : LT, C, Edge, WLB, S and CB. They can't fill all of those positions on the cheap or the the draft so i agree they will have to create a bunch of cap space. They can do some financial shenanigins, but they seem to like to keep that to a minimum. Plus they need to add depth at numerous positions, although some or most of that can be done with lower cost guys.

Good article on POD discussing the Lions interior o-line options. The thing that stood out most is how bad they were in pass pro, all of them. Ratledge is a keeper but Mahogony may not be. I could see them adding multiple options at those positons, 1 in the draft and 1 in free agency. https://www.prideofdetroit.com/detroit-lions-analysis/156802/detroit-lions-first-biggest-offseason-decision-center#comments.

That is good news.
-
They do not have depth, practicaly anywhere.
-
The cap situation also highlights why it is important to draft depth. They do not have any young talent ready to step in at S, WLB, Edge, TE, C or LT. Trading all of the thirds and fourth round picks are coming back to bite them this year.
-
Drafting a OT at 1-16 makes the most sense, although Holmes doesn't like to get boxed in like that. He could trade up but we need the picks. Then they could sign a C or Zeitler type OG, moving Ratledge to C, to finish the line. Maybe add a lower priced veteran tackle backup since Manu can't be counted on. Plus they have needs at safety and DE. They are going to have to restructure some guys and probably release Decker. Plus they have to resign a few guys like Anzelone, one or two of the DT's, and Raymond. I would hate to see them backload too many deals and wind up like New Orleans and have a 2-3 year salary cap hell situation.
