  1. They have Swift for one more year, might as well keep him and look for a replacement next year.
  2. Law has a bunch of contacts in the industry having worked in a front office before. So the Tigers may be a weaker spot for him, knowledge wise. Plus he may be factoring in the Tiger inability to develop hitters.
  3. There has been news that the Bears are considering trading Fields, probably just draft smokescreening.
  4. This is my thought too. I still think if they like a QB and he falls to 6 they will take him. "It's easier to get worse than better" is not exactly a ringing endorsement of Goff.
  5. The reason the Tigers are so bad is because they can't develop their own talent, period. Bringing in a few free agents will not make that big of a difference when your farm system kicks out a decent hitter once every years. They have not spent enough on scouting and development and I hope that is where Harris will make the biggest difference.
  6. How much they can spend in free agency will depend largely on who they bring back among the defensive guys that are free agents. Like Elliot, Cominsky, Harris, and Anzalone. They were an awful defense for the year, and bringing the same guys back doesn't seem like a good idea. However they did improve a lot over the last 10 games. I guess it depends on how much each those guys need to be paid, but this FO seems like they like to retain players whom have proven on the field rather than spend in free agency.
  7. Jung and Keith are pretty similar. Bat first guys the Tigers are hoping that do not drop down the defensive spectrum too far. Law was fairly high on Jung before the draft as well.
  8. I watched Meadows in WM several times over the last few years and he really did struggle, he rarely barreled up a ball. So to see him make this much progress is exciting, because he is a legit plus CF'er. Santana struggled with injuries in 22, dropping that far seems extreme since there are some low ceiling types towards the bottom of that list.
  9. Here are key off season dates. Feb. 21-March 7: Teams may use the franchise or transition tag on impending unrestricted free agents. Feb. 28-March 6: NFL Scouting Combine (Indianapolis) March 7: Colleges may begin hosting pro days. March 13 (noon) through March 15 (3:59 p.m.): Clubs may enter contract negotiations with impending unrestricted free agents. Contracts may not be executed until the start of the new league year at 4 p.m. on March 15. March 15 (prior to 4 p.m.): Clubs must submit qualifying offers to restricted free agents. If a qualifying offer is not extended, those players will become unrestricted free agents at the start of the new league year. March 15 (prior to 4 p.m.): All teams must be under the 2023 salary cap. March 15 (4 p.m.): The 2023 NFL league year begins. Unrestricted free agent contracts and trades agreed to prior to the start of the new league year can be executed. March 26-29: Annual League Meeting (Phoenix) April 3: Clubs that hired a new head coach after the 2022 regular season may begin offseason workout programs. April 27-29: NFL Draft (Kansas City)
  10. Soon after Sparky arrived he decided he didn't like Ron Leflore either and traded him for Dan Shatzeder. I always hated that trade, and Shatzeder as a result. Sparky was right though, Leflore was out of baseball a couple of years later while DS somehow lasted 15 years in the majors, despite not being very good in any of them.
  11. It's an incomplete picture of the player development system, with a lot of variables like recent promotions, draft position, etc. But even given those the Tigers are awful at baseball.
  12. Keith Law did his team farm system rankings and he ranked the Tigers as the worst system in baseball. He mentioned how they haven't had any contributions from the international signings.
  13. Philly looks like they are in cap hell after this super bowl run. They have over 27M in dead cap and are only 2M under right now. And that is with Hargrave, Bradberry, Kelce, and Brandon Graham unsigned for next year. Plus Hurts will be a FA after this year and may want a contract done this offseason. That is what happens when you manipulate the salary cap numbers and push contracts out, eventually it comes due.
  14. The Lions are as good as anybody on offense. On defense they have multiple needs, and need a difference maker IMO. Like a Chris Jones, Jalen Ramsey, etc. While I also think they will probably not make a big splash in free agency or trade, you can make a case that if they did and then hit on a few day 1 and day 2 picks they could have a top defense as well.
  15. I will guess that they take an IOL before the end of day 2 of the draft. Jackson's contact is up next year, they can't pay them all.
  16. Spotrac has Brown's estimated contract at 3 years 10M a year. That seems a little high to me though.
  17. They just drafted Paschel, and he pretty much plays the same position. Plus Romeo, Houston and Harris. Not saying they couldn't make it work, but that would be quite a few resources at one position when when they have so many other needs on defense.
  18. Goff is on the books for 30M next year. Do they restructure him to to create some cap room? If they do that kinds of ties them to him for a couple extra years. The problem i see with Goff is he must have a decent line and weapons to throw to. And with him making 30M a year it will be difficult to hang on the current OL, ARSB, and others when their contracts expire. Unless of course Holmes can keep hitting on multiple draft picks.
  19. And Cam Collier at 17. I'm sure Avila and Co. went with Jung because he was closer to the majors. Collier was a HS guy and Jung was 21 when drafted. Collier was rated above Jung prior to the draft, although it was fairly close. Just another example IMO of them passing on a higher ceiling guy because they didn't want to wait. Although giver their track record of of developing hitters they probably factored that in.
  20. According to Sam Webb Harbaugh is telling recruits he is coming back. He just met with Nykolas Harbor this past week, the #6 overall recruit in the 2023 cycle. He needed the university to step up on a few things and they are going to. I believe his threatening to leave will ultimately help the Wolverines in the long run. Apparently Warde didn't want to compete with other programs on NIL because he didn't think it was sustainable.
  21. All of this boils down to that the Tigers will not be successful until they start drafting, signing and developing young talent. The Tigers have lagged behind most other clubs for a very long time. And somehow have seemingly gotten worse in the last few years. Their track record on the international front is among the worst in baseball in the last decade (and before that). And all of Avila's recent signings are stagnating currently as well. If it wasn't for top ten picks they would have the no blue chip prospects at all. It is probably more development than talent identification, but they are bad at both. This is where Harris will make the biggest difference IMO.
  22. If they hang on to Okwara and don't structure Goff they should have enough left to bring back of few of their own free agents. Like Chark, Elliot, Williams, Buggs and Cominsky. Brown and Anzalone are probably goners. If they do cut Romeo and restructure Goff the could potentially sign a decent free agent or land someone in a trade. I think Stephen Gilmore from Indy might be a decent CB to go after.
  23. Opening day Lineup: Greene CF Vierling 3B Torkelson 1B Baez SS Haase LF Cabrerra DH Meadows RF Schoop 2B Rogers C
  24. There are a couple of questions regarding who they may pick in the first round. Will they consider a DE? They have Hutch obviously at WDE, and Paschal and Cominsky at SDE. And Houston at Edge, so they do not have a need. I have seen a couple of mocks where Wilson or Murphy go to Detroit. Anderson seems like a longshot and he plays Hutch's position anyway. So I don't believe they will take one, seems like an opportunity to trade down. QB. I still think they will consider taking one, but it is becoming a longshot that they like a QB enough to take one at 6, and that QB actually lasts that long. Having a QB that is good and not making 30 million a year is a huge advantage salary cap wise, plus they could probably get some picks for Goff if they traded him. Will they consider a lower impact position at either 6 or 18? Like Robinson or any ILB that may be there at 18? Unless they LOVE Robinson and he lasts to 18 they are looking at CB or DL at both picks.
  25. I'm starting to like Kerby Joseph. Colton Pouncy @colton_pouncy Kerby Joseph on Aaron Rodgers: "If that's his last pass, I'm saving that ball and I'm sending it to him so he can sign it. If he don't sign it, I'll understand. But I doubt he's gonna retire. He's probably gonna try to come back, and if he comes back, more plays for me." 1:10 AM · Jan 9, 2023
